Tipping in a pub/bar around the UK

Most of us would claim that about ourselves though. I'm going to make myself some badges for work "gratuities accepted" or the likes.....
Just meant they don't earn the £40 an hour or however much is made from cutting hair, that'll go to their boss who will pay their wages and the upkeep etc. I don't work for the hairdresser's union or anything just saying haha.

In liverpool, always tip, as has been stated, its normally 20-50p. Outside the city i dont bother coz it is generally the price of a drink, although if ive been in one place for hours i might tip on the last round if the bar staff have been ok.

Rarely seen it done round my way, usually only some tool in a suit and t-shirt combo who makes a massively overt gesture of discretely tipping. Too much aftershave and a watch/car/lady that reflects his "status". Buying rounds of shots for people 15 years his junior because he's "sound". I should too in fairness because it's a hard job and good staff make or break a bar for me

I tend not to tip for drinks, sometimes if it's a few pence, I might say "keep the change", but generally no.

With eating out I think it's different, if a waiter/ waitress has; come to the table, taken your order, brought you your food and done it in a pleasant maner, I would tip, but nothing mental, say around like 10%.

If I have to go to a bar and order it myself or get food, cutlery, etc myself, I don't see why I should tip. I don't tip of the service is bad or if the staff are rude.

America is different to the Uk, their economy is based in tipping! :-)

Why though? Thats their job.

If they go above just doing their job, sure, give them a bit extra. But otherwise it's such an odd thing to do only in certain situations.

I come from the north west and was drilled by me mum to always say "and your own".......20-50p taken and everyone happy.....

Moved down to the smoke and also got stung by this - although my mate had a better tale when he got stung in an upmarket bar in shoreditch at a double patron at about 15 quid :D Although he did admit another mate was being a cock to the bar staff so probably saw this as retribution......

But in the south if you say "your own" or have a drink they will pay the cost of a full drink.......

Now if I am in abusy pub or bar I can for an extended amount of time, I use this as a tactic to get the bar staff to remember me and earn that drink.....it doesn't always work, but sometimes it does, and if they are particularly good or just have massive bangers (either sex I'm not picky) then they may get another. Or sometimes I am feeling generous.....this is less regular

Over time this has built up good rapport, but at times I have had some runt in wetherspoons take 3.70 off me for no return..... :(

Take one yourself love, is usually a ten bob or a quid

I had one flute who said cheers I'll have a Stella mate, and took the cost of a pint, the pikey

I used to live right next to Shoreditch and Christ, there were some fruity looking people around there!

I bet the bulb barman in question had sleeve tattoos, those grotesque flesh tunnel things, a massive bushy beard, wears no socks with his jeans, and is a member of a whisky circle despite not liking whisky.

Mate said it in Amsterdam and the lad took 8 euro or something for a double vodka and lemo, I was amused. As a rule I generally wouldn't say it outside of Liverpool, I badly hate tipping anyway unless I'm somewhere really poor. Americians treat waiting staff like slaves and are very demanding.
