Time to let Rodwell go...

Yeah. Why not? Just look at Spurs. They qualified for the Champions League with Bale (who is 'mush'), Palacios, Huddlestone (not too dissimilar to Rodwell) and Lennon in midfield.

Lennon dances on coleman in every department. From his youth to now. Bale is 3 times the player of brunt now never mind when brunt hits 30, huddlestone and palacios are seasoned central midfielders one is brilliant technically and the other breaks play up along with the best in the prem. You forgot to add jenas & modric to that who both unfortunately would be in our starting 11 right now. Aswell as their strike force of pavluchenko, crouch, defoe and keane. Thats why they got champions league football.

Coleman rodwell holden brunt CL lmao

Im still yet to be convinced by Rodwell.

(think I've posted that sentence about 8 times in various threads over time)

If Lennon is so hot why has he hardly featured for Spurs and England this season? Lennon is 130th in the Premier League's assists table for the season. Coleman is 69th. As far as career goals go Lennon's record is slightly better than 1 in 10 whereas Coleman's is just over 1 in 6. Not bad when we're comparing a converted fullback in his first season of Premier League action to a specialised winger.

Only Nani has provided more Premier League assists than Brunt this season (11). Bale has set up just a single goal. Charlie Adam might receive all the plaudits but, as far as carrying a struggling side goes, Brunt deserves atleast as much credit.

I can't work out whether it's Huddlestone or Palacios who are supposed to be "brilliant technically". Holden is third in the Premier League's table for most successful tackles. Needless to say neither Spurs player is even close.

Modric is an excellent player, I agree. I don't think Jenas is any better than what we already have.

As far as their strike force goes, they've scored a combined total of 12 Premier League goals this season. That's as many as Kevin Nolan! lmao

You shouldn't sell your best players. I'm not comparing but Gerrard didn't really start putting his influence on games til he was 21.

Unless we get a ridiculous offer, like Carroll or Lescott in which case it could be good business.

Wes Brown, Darren Gibson and Macheda on loan + £15m for the debt.

Gibson to replace Fellaini when he goes to Madrid.

Coleman is neither a good winger nor right back hes mush and needs to be replaced asap. Hes got pace and thats about it. Final ball 80% shocking. Finishing infront of goal 80% shocking. He's not good enough. His pace is what is exciting everybody, because we haven't seen that down our wing since kanchelskis. But he is not good enough technically. If someone offered 10m I'd bite their hand off

Are you serious? Huddlestones one of the most technically gifted players around. The other day I read somone on here describe Rodwell as technically gifted and elegant and post a youtube clip of one of his U21 games. One of the links next to it had a clip of Huddlestone in a CL game and the difference in quality was vast. Huddlestone's ability on the ball was on a different level to Rodwells. He sees the pass early, can play great passes of with foot, sets the tempo better then anyone in the Prem and is a wonderful striker of the ball. Huddlestone's one of those players that youtube is useful for, as he makes complicated things look so easy, you often don't realise what he's done watching it during games and need to see his contribution in highlight form.

I couldn't find the clip, i assume it's been taken down, but here is another montage, that is largerlly taken from a CL game. Obviously youtube clips don't tell you everything, but at least you can see how early Huddlestone see's things, how he's comfortable on the ball when he doesn't have much space which is the key to top quality CM play and how he is a great passer off either foot. Both Rodwell and Holden have a long way to go before they are at Huddlestone's level. I really can't see how anyone can fail to recognise Huddlestone techncial ability. And how many minutes have he or Palacios played compared to Holden? Also wont Spurs have a lot more of the ball than Bolton and thus less opportunity to tackle?

Huddlestone's a good player. I actually think he's very similar to Rodwell in terms of his attributes. Give Jack another three or four years to make up for the age difference and it's hard to see a lot in it. I think it's going a bit over board to say that Huddlestone "sets the tempo better than anyone in the Prem". Presumably he's been injured for the biggest part of this year. If Bale, Van der Vaart and Modric are automatic starters in the Spurs midfield, would he be guaranteed a place ahead of Lennon, Palacios, Jenas, Pienaar or Sandro? His career best league goals tally is only 3 and he didn't provide any assists up until November. If he was all that he'd surely have more than 3 England caps too, when there has been no competition on Gareth Barry for his place.

Huddleston is class Jack will develop like rooney did at utd.Dont think we will see best of him at our club!

I really do think he sets a better tempo than any other CM in the Prem. It seems to go totally unnoticed how fast his distribution of the ball is and how virtually everything he does is with the intention of spreading the play out wide or getting the ball forward. I really can't think of anyone else who can set a tempo like him in the middle of the park. He's a dead cert to be in Tottenham's first team when fit. Tm Sherwood said he was the first name on the team sheet. The fact he's only got 3 caps say so much to me about what is wrong with English football. Everytime we get knocked out of a major tournament we complain that our players can't pass the ball as well as those from continental Europe and South America. But then we ignore the likes of Huddlestone. Look how many caps Glenn Hoddle won compared to the likes of Bryan Robson. Ask the average England fans who was the better player and they'll say Robson. Ask the average European or South American and Hoddle would win no contest. We employ foreign managers and they seem to turn English on us and we are no better for it. Capello played 442 often with Lamard and Gerrard. Gareth Southgate could have picked that team for us and for far less money.

Back to Huddlestone and check out this clip that shows his on the ball contribtion against Inter Milan. He doesn't do anything special, but as the pivot of the team watch how quickly the ball is moved around and how virtually everything he does is with attacking intent. Spurs width is due to the fact he continually spreads the play wide to the FBs and wingers. It doesn't always come off, but you can see that the foundation of Spurs attacking desire, is Huddlestone setting a high tempo. There is virtually none of the Gareth Barry and Carrick, slow, sideways passing to another CM player. It's all about one or two touches and getting the ball to space from where they can attack. The effect he has on games never gets highlighted on MOTD etc. He's like the ultimate unsung hero, as he's so efficient in his work, he hardly gets noticed at times, unless he does one of his trade mark long passes and scores a great goal. I just can't understand how the likes of Carrick or Barry get picked ahead of him. And to be honest, i really can't see that Rodwell has similar attributes. I can't see him ever having Huddlestone vision, speed of thought or basic technical ability. I think Rodwell will have to find a different position if he's going to be the player he was touted to be a few years ago. It's been said he's got a future at CB, so maybe it will be there, but it's odd he's never used there when the likes of Hibbert are.

Physically they're both imposing players, yet they can shift well considering their size. They've both got good close control, they can shoot from distance and they're box to box players. We've only seen in glimpses what Rodwell is capable of. Slaloming past defenders before drilling a low shot past Van der Sar, sending the City fullback the wrong way before charging up the line to set Arteta up and his European brace hopefully hint at things to come. We play with a congested midfield and very little width or movement. Arteta has found it a slog, so we shouldn't be too hard on Jack. He's only just turned 20 and he's still learning the position after all. To suggest that he has no "basic technical ability" is as unbelievable as Cash saying that Coleman isn't good enough. The way he's accepted responsibility and shone through the international ranks, I'm confident that he'll develop into one hell of a player. If he can also play at centreback, that will be a bonus.
