2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

He is a complete monster at winning the ball and a complete black hole in possession. Not sure if that will ever change but if he became even average with the ball at his feet he'd be a solid prem player

Agreed.

He's got way more ability on the ball than Gana Gueye, just needs to believe in himself. Look how much Garner has improved on the ball compared to last year. Centre midfield is the hardest position on the pitch by a distance.

He looks poor on the ball but ace at tackling.

I don't think I agree about him on the ball vs gana, but I agree about Garner and also think Gana actually got loads better on the ball between his first and second spells here (the wonders of PSG level coaching I suspect). So there is hope! It's crackers how good he is at winning possession

Its very odd to see Iroegbunam win a tackle superbly but not have the average passing range you'd expect from someone who has the confidence to make some sublime tackles.

After about the sixth very good slide tackle I got depressed , and thought yep “ He’s going to be voted MoTM on the back of it . “ He’s a solid player but his ability to influence a game going forward needs working on . Still a bargain as a @ swap “ for Dobbin

When we got him I said i didnt see it solely as a PSR swap. He has attributes similar to Onana but just doesnt have the positioning or passing range.

He wasn't terrible, but he clearly isn't good enough to play at this level.

How so? He's a very good destroyer.

The question id say is whether he can improve his positioning and passing at 22.

Ridiculous take. I thought he did well. Very difficult to play midfield against that level of team when so few players in your own team are capable of retaining possession. Prime Xavi would have struggled in our midfield tonight.

Hes one of the players who doesnt seem capable of positively retaining posession.

I seen him win a few great tackles today....retain possession then pass it successfully. Also seen him have possession with several players around him and still come away in possession. Simple passing but successful.

He had a good game, hard to play midfield against them, especially when you have nothing up top and a below par grealish and Mcneil on the other side , hence why a lot of passes go backwards

Sure! I voted him motm.

But in general i see him as a destroyer who needs to get his 3 or 4/10 passing ability up to a 6/10 at the very least.

He also needs some confidence to drive forwards with the ball as thats in his repertoire.

I wonder if being dropped and then thrown into games may have hit his confidence.

I actually think he is currently far better than what James Garner was in Garners previous seasons. That alone gives me hope. I see the lad having some moments that surprise me in a good way.........he just needs to reach more moments in a game. I think he has the quality but not the faith in himself yet

Garners previous years were basically under Dyche, you can't ever compare that.

Nearly all of you on here wrote Garner off, without taking into account who he was stuck under.

The lad is quality and always has been.

Tim was really good tonight and improving.
But no Comparison's at all with Garner.

Despite being under Dyche I stand by what I said. The comparison can still be made regardless. This seasons Garner is better than Tim but this seasons Tim is IMO better than Garner as of under Dyche so we have hope for Tim

Grealish at villa was better than Grealish at City and City were the better club.

I like Tim, but you cant compare a players ability when different clubs, managers, tactics come in to play.
