Tim Howard

He's been showing signs of regression for a while, but the things he's doing now (well minus the penalties), he's always been suspect to mistakes, the difference is, they were less frequent due to him being younger and our defence being vastly better.

His positioning and judgement has always been an issue, the amount of goals he has cost us through being miles off his line, standing too far on free kicks and as we saw today, his judgement on going to play the ball.

He has been a great servant, and his first 3 years were excellent. But put him out of his dignity before he becomes the most hated Everton player of all time.

Oh and he will be the downfall of Martinez.

Self induced..

yup, positioning, etc was always a weakness of his but when he was younger he was athletic enough and quick enough to recover fast to make the save. Now that he's aged those weaknesses are being highlighted more. He was great for us in the WC, because we sat deep and funneled everything inside which just left Tim to "shot stop". Based on how we're playing at Everton, we need a "sweeper" style keeper which Tim never was even before he got old.

Having watched it back 95% of the blame lies with Howard.

Stones could have done better but Howard literally takes a step backwards then stands still as it's coming to him. Ayew runs 15 yards in the time it's taken him to move 2.
+1. I saw little wrong with the back pass.

Managers have to make tough decisions when it comes to players who have been regular starters at a club for years, and no longer have the same ability to be able to command that.

Its a decision that should have been made a long time ago, and still hasn't, its a shame.

Missed the match due to work and just been reading the last 20 odd pages without actually seeing the penalty incident, so didn't know what to expect. Now just seen the vine that was posted. Even by Howard standards, that was some truly awful goalkeeping. There wasn't even much wrong with the back pass ffs. It's just that Howard's awareness and decision making is absolutely atrocious. As someone has already said, he actually brings Ayew down on the very spot he was standing in when Stones makes the pass! Even when he finally realised he was being closed down, there was zero need for him to swing his leg at the ball. Ayew was going nowhere. Any other keeper would have dealt with that comfortably.

It's getting embarrassing at this point. These mistakes have been happening for so long and at an increasingly rapid clip to the point at which the player is now hated by the fans. Changes should have been made a long time ago, and they STILL haven't as of now. Its a seriously unprofessional situation.

I can't quite decide if Martinez is too stubborn or too cowardly.

Robles will come in and even if he does very good and has two excellent games in the cups, he will be automatically dropped for Howard vs Newcastle.

It is such a laughable decision from the manager. It is clear that the fans hate him.

As far as the 'playing the way out of the back' theory goes, watch that horror Vine again (and again and again) and see Stones and Funes Mori gesturing for him to boot it into the stands - something we know Howard used to be competent at.
