Tim Howard

He ousted him the same way he ousted Howard last season -- al Habsi was injured, so Martinez was forced to play Robles. When al Habsi was healthy again, he was right back into the lineup, which is why Robles was back on the bench in Wigan's final Premier League match. It was the same situation as last season.
So that's why Wigan got relegated they dropped Robles, so on that logic we will be in a relegation fight this season!

They actually got relegated in Robles' last match, the second to last weekend of the season.

Look, the point is that no one has seen more of Robles than Roberto Martinez. He's seen him in training every day for three and a half years now and watched him from the touchline in 34 competitive matches. He doesn't think Robles is good enough to be a regular starter, even though he has every incentive to make him one. If under these circumstances he still doesn't think Robles should start, I'm inclined to trust his opinion over that of anyone posting here.

While I partially agree with your point and logic, remember people are forming their opinions on the games we have seen him in, where he has looked solid and at least tries to command his area.

The trust with Howard is completely gone. I'm not saying Robles is the answer but comparison performances Robles has looked better in every department. Surely it would be better for us to play with a keeper the defence can trust to at least give them some help on crossing? To organise.

referring back to your point. It does seem strange that we seem to see a steady keeper when he gets a chance and then be dropped undeservedly, but this can only be due to Martinez' lack of trust.

Very strange situation for me, the Robles in matches and Robles in Training must be two very different animals.

Or Roberto has his favourites like alot of managers?

I'm still not convinced by the Robles in matches, to be honest. He looked good against Norwich (although not much better than Howard did against them) and Middlesbrough (a Championship club resting the majority of their starters), but only adequate against Reading (another Championship side) and downright awful against Barnsley (a League One side). Five goals conceded in four matches, mostly against lower league sides, doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Neither does the run in the side last season; even though it culminated in those three clean sheets, we only won one of the eleven matches he played in during that stretch.

The idea that the defense trusts him more than Howard seems like conjecture, too. He's certainly better than Howard at claiming crosses (although he's had his share of flaps in his career, too), but I haven't seen anything that makes me think the defenders are any less likely to make bonehead mistakes with him in goal than with Howard. I still can't get that Barnsley match out of my head, and I doubt Martinez can, either.

You would think Joel would be one of those favorites, though, wouldn't you? Why else would he try to bring him with him when he changed clubs? One of the very first things Martinez did after taking charge was pay a few million pounds to sign him. Why wouldn't he want him to succeed?

He loves Howard more? Haha

Trusting the manager has got to go 11th place.
