Tim Howard

The only truly great Everton goalkeepers are West and Southall.

Interesting you used the term ' apart from ', are you really saying that Tim Howard is a great keeper. I'm all for agreeing he has been a decent Everton keeper but a great one ? Hmmmmm how very weird.
I don't class Howard the Coward as a great keeper as you keep defending the indefensible on that corner goal on Sunday, yes the two great keepers I seen were Westy , and big Nev who was world class - George Wood, and Martyn were good keepers - Tim has been bog standard imo a shot stopper no more !

You did ask the question: Have i seen any other great Everton keepers apart from Howard.

Agree on Georgie Wood, on his day he was excellent.
Remember the day we went to Maine Road and he had a massively swollen mouth due to what was reported as a huge abscess?
For me, - despite us losing to a late, late goal from a very, very good City team - that was arguably his best ever game for us.
They threw everything at him and judging by his facial expressions, he must have been in agony and if I remember rightly, Joe Corrigan said afterwards it was probably the bravest and best game he'd ever seen an opposition goalie play.

Could have been Martyn if he didn't join when he was 38 and played for us for a full decade like Howard

Because Howard was good 7 years ago, doesn't mean he'll be good forever and ever
I did say in a single season.

As predicted though, coulda woulda shoulda, ifs and buts.

Just because im defending him doesn't mean i want him as Everton's number 1 for the foreseeable future either. I think we are all in agreement that this should be his last season as our top keeper. He does need replacing, of course he does but he is no where near as bad as the usual crowd are making out.

We are all in agreement there. However, when people make utterly ridiculous statements like "Martyn had one good season", they need to be told

He's 37 why did we give him Three years contact last season?
He started this season better than last, now imo his traits of fear going out for a ball in the air from a basic corner have returned!

Why we love keeping on old players who have seen better days or past it (bit harsh maybe?), couldn't we really find a young better alternative for the money spent on his new contract??
