Sad to see it end in the manner that it did, but it's nice to see the club give him a proper farewell.

Time will tell if Howard is remembered as one of the Everton greats. On his day he was decent for us.

Admitidly, I've never been his biggest fan as I thought we could do better - but in hindsight he was solid for us for a good number of years.

Rarity to have such a solid selection for that number one spot, and we've struggled to replace him.

Finished now though.

I'm not going to pretend that he was the best, but he wore the shirt with pride.

Shame that it ended the way it did.

However, time to move on!
Never an Everton great sadly left in goal 2 seasons too long!
also his words are cheap unlike his salary, not to blame for the season though RM chose him when in continual poor form, contract extension till the age of 39 etc -
Other players have been as bad this season latter half thats why the manager paid his price of his job - a fair few of those 2-0 leads were given up down to an out of form Timmy - Chelski away style!

Ideally, yes...but in reality I'm not sure it's ever been the kind of utopia you describe.

Wasn't there fierce criticism among the fanbase of Howard Kendall's first year in the early-80's?

Yes, I remember the criticism of HK, but that was solely , almost entirely an opinion about the management of the team, and was very little in the way of personal. I think the internet may have a lot to do with the current invective used against individuals, posters do not need to identify themselves and so simply say what they like. It was never Utopia, but there was little personal abuse and attacks on the families of players. The world has certainly changed. I doubt whether HK could open a dressing room window today, and tell the players to gain strength from the noise coming from the crowd, or whether he could ask the players to read social media and take strength and confidence from many of the comments!!

interesting point that, Steve...but don't agree: the roar from the crowd gives players a primal energy...it's a timeless quality.
