Excellent post, I agree with all of it. The last line is very telling as well. Unfortunately, and I say this with a heavy heart, in my long experience of watching Everton, it is plain that many of our current 'supporters' are not 'better than that.' I don't know whether its just a sociological change that has created the vicious, personal abuse that some supporters rely on to make their point, or whether there is a deeper reason, closer to home, simply nurtured by the frustration caused by lack of success. 'Team spirit' should apply to supporters as well as players...and one should support the other. When a team is having a difficult time is the time when support should be at its greatest and most vocal. By all means have opinions, and express them freely, but remember that as supporters , our wider brief is to'support'.

Ideally, yes...but in reality I'm not sure it's ever been the kind of utopia you describe.

Wasn't there fierce criticism among the fanbase of Howard Kendall's first year in the early-80's?

that doesn't count though mate, it's only modern fans who vent on the internet that have ever been negative, those jolly boys back in the day only ever supported the club, and never once protested against our greatest manager

As crap as he has been the past two seasons, incredible servant to the club. Deserves a good send off (as did Cahill). Has he reached 10 years or is he just short of it? I only asked as I thought a testimonial would be arranged if he had. Got a feeling he's on 9 though?
Don't get this Incredible servant tosh..... it was his job and he got paid extremely well for doing it.... I've been in my current job for 11 years now, am I an incredible servant deserving of hero worship ??

I'm crying here .
I cried more when he was playing for the last 18 months, RM nemesis of his downfall by playing an out of form keeper, but TBF his longevity in our good years deserves his send off in a closing game it would be nice if we were winning to sub him with ten minutes to go, and fetch Robles on so the fans can applaud him off to say good bye, two years too late IMO, not his fault he was chosen by RM when clearly out of form 18 months ago!

HK did get his garage daubed with messages not too nice by the fans in the 1980,s so not that innocent but every fan base has idiots thank goodness HK was given a chance as virtually the same players went on to win most things!
