Tim Howard

Stones has had anything but a free ride? Loads on here acknowledging the results have improved since both Howard and Stones haven't been playing. The difference is that Stones will likely improve his defending as he's only young and still learning where as really Howard will only get worse now. I don't think any evertonian would pick our starting lineup for the next game with either player in it though even if both fit.

I hope he doesn't, but Bobby Brownshoes might surprise you there...

With Howard likely to return against West Brom on Saturday, Martinez also urged fans to show their respect to a player who has given so much to the club over a decade.

“This is the tenth season of Tim Howard at Everton and I know that, as a football club, we will have to take a bit of time to consider his best moments and what he has done for this club,” he added.

“We should appreciate that and give him that warmth between now and the end of the season. I think it’s important that Tim doesn’t feel that all his good work has been forgotten.

Doesn't necessarily read that he's getting picked to me.

Is RM havin a laugh - if he runs out tomorrow I hope the new owners sack Bobby!
What good work we would be in the top 4 now if he forgot to select Tim coward as a keeper!

:( Hopefully that doesn't mean what it sounds like. The only positive I can draw from that is that it seems he is alluding to this being his last year. Very small consolation.

Since Howard has been out injured and Joel has taken his place I have been a happier person in general.

My misses says it's because I've quit smoking, I'm telling you it's because Howards isnt in the team anymore.

If Howard replaces Joel this weekend, I will go back to being a miserable sod who hates crosses and Yankee Candles that twitch.

P.s. I still smoke on the sly, so having Joel in goal makes me happy.

:coffee:

I don't see how Tim Howard would play this weekend, even if fit. Robles hasn't had much to do in recent games but he's been in there for our best defensive spell in a long while. Confidence is high right now and you don't mess with that.

I'm fairly confident in Martinez making the right call this time. Earlier in the season, I think he stuck with Tim due to the youth and inexperience along his back line. Now he's got his defenders healthy again and should feel more comfortable with Robles.

I'll be interested to see how this is handled. If Howard is now the #2, will he play in the FA Cup? That does seem to be Martinez's preference but it'll lead to a massive backlash from the supporters. Most would rather have their 80-year-old granny in goal than Tim.

From the Guardian

Roberto Martínez has given a strong indication that Tim Howard’s Everton career is nearing the end by urging fans to show the USA international “warmth” for the remainder of the season and not to forget his outstanding service at Goodison Park.

The 36-year-old has been linked with a summer return to MLS, in particular Colorado Rapids, after a difficult season at Everton that has at times strained his relationship with the club’s support. Howard is under contract at Goodison until 2018 but with Joel Robles keeping three clean sheets during the veteran’s absence with a knee problem, the former Manchester United goalkeeper may struggle to reclaim the No1 role that has been his for the past decade.

Martínez claims to be unaware of Howard’s future intentions, insisting: “Tim has another two years after this summer so I don’t have to make a decision. I’ve spoken to Tim about everything in general – how he’s feeling about the injury, his thoughts about the national team and how he feels fresh and good. All that matters now is concentrating on the games in front of us. That’s the reality.”

Martinez is talking nonsense about the fans showing him respect, yes they should and they would if he would of packed in at his peak a while back, if he would of taken him out of the firing line ages ago this wouldn't of happened, Matrinez is basically hanging him out to dry.
