What I don't get is why the manager, in the knowledge of a changed defence and goalkeeper keeping three clean sheets in a row and looking much, much more solid than the entire rest of season, cannot simply say that Robles will start tomorrow and has to leave people guessing. It's almost as if he's deliberately trying to bring Joel down, make him think he's done nothing yet and will never be first choice so long as Howard, who everybody knows is finished, is around.

Does Martinez not want to instil any confidence in Robles?

It's not even that, though. Nowadays whenever Howard plays the whole stadium is a nervous wreck, which is having a huge detrimental effect on the team, hence our woeful home form and soft goals and mistakes being conceded on a weekly basis.

I get that Howard has been around for years and should be respected, but handing him a free pass to play each week knowing that the team as a whole will suffer is no management at all. In fact, it's gross mismanagement.

This is a wonderful opportunity to put Robles in goal, and nobody loses face. Martinez simply keeping Robles in due to his form, Howard on the bench after injury. Nobody has been dropped or can be unhappy.

Defies belief really that he could put Howard straight back in. Unbelievably important game which we cannot afford to drop points in. Howard coming back from injury, not fully fit, and even before he got injured he was stinking the place out and single-handedly creating a toxic atmosphere at Goodison. Then Robles come in and, as if by magic, pressure was taken off the team, the fans were more relaxed and performances and, more importantly, results improved dramatically.

What a horrible message it would send out to any player coming into the first XI who isn't one of his favourites. Half expecting Baines to be playing tomorrow based on his form two years ago, as opposed to Oviedo's fantastic current form.

Half hope we labour to a win if he selects Howard, with him giving away yet more penalties and embarrassing himself in the process, only for a Lukaku hat-trick to save the day.

Tbh even then he wouldn't take him out of the team for the next game.

Has anything been said either way from the club?
Big call this one, going into what should be a straight forward game. I expect either keeper to not have much to do in this one, but obviously the opponent shouldn't come into it when making the call, form and development are what counts on this one.

Arsed about last season. We were crap. Means nothing now.

Oh I will fume if it happens, but why get your knickers in a twist when right now Joel is our keeper. And has been for the last 3 games.
The Joel situation is totally different this year. He didn't look as good last year, yes i get the results he got but that was more a function of us protecting him. This year from an eye test perspective he is ready.

No way the clown starts tomorrow

I really, really hope Howard doesn't play, but I can honestly imaging Martinez selecting him.

To think the manager is willing to have the fans on the players' backs from the first minute just because he wants to play one of his mates, is appalling.
