Or its a ludicrous excuse for how crap he is at his job, at some point he will have to save a shot, an unfortunate consequence of his occupation

Yeah that's the solution to our goalkeeping issues. Just don't let the opposition have shots. Ever. That's it, we all know goalkeepers shouldn't be expected to actually save shots

he needs to go In my opinion, I have never witnessed such scared players in defence before, I have never seen so many goals go past a keeper with so few other shots at goal, so much flapping not catching, he gives a panicky attitude, then that lets the other team realise they have a chance, are outfield players don't help either as if they are winning they think the job is done and forget to play. They get arrogant and let the other team back in with a mistake or bad back pass, there is fear all over and not doing their jobs correctly.

His job is to make saves. He made 0 again. I expect the odd great save.

He's an absolute embarassment. Like seriously clapping the gladyws street sarcastically. He must think he's boss. I expect SOME saves. He offers absolute ZERO. He should never be lobbed from there. I don't care how good the strike is. His positioning is atrocious.

Butland didn't make any, and everyone would love him here. That is also such a ridiculous stat. If a keeper let in 4 penos and the oppo didn't have a single shot on target it would be the same.
You get at him when he's on his line, you get at him when he's off it, make your minds up. What's an embarrassment are people calling for his head after a game like today where he did little to nothing wrong. We have a manager that can't organise a defence and Howard is taking the abuse.

He wasn't solely at fault but its months since he made a save you thought was impressive. Added to the fact he makes regular mistakes, he's just a pretentious waste of space. Needs booed at every game

Not really mate, we're saying he couldn't do much for the first two goals, but could probably actually move his arse off his line for the 3rd and 4th. How is that scapegoating, considering everyone's also criticising Martinez and basically everyone from our defence?

or it shouldnt have even been a pen for the 4th goal... and the 3rd was unlucky, he palmed it wide, coleman should be blocking the cross like Pieters did all game on Deulofeu...

Butland stopped nearly any cross that went near him, or at least managed to get it away from the box effectively. What I'm trying to say, and I think I replied to your post and you kind of ignored it earlier, is that Howard's decision making is extremely poor, and he's supposed to be the experienced player. Also, the keeper is essentially half your defence and is more or less responsible for keeping it organised - why is it that it's absolutely never organised when he's in the nets?

Also, as a comparison between Butland and Howard - Butland is 22 and a first team regular, having played about 140 games in various leagues, with this being his first full season in the Prem.

Howard is 36 years old, with supposed tonnes of experience from his 320 games for us alone, and has also been in and around the highest levels of club football (Man United before that, with SAF as well) for about a decade. How can he not know keeper basics then? Or how can he not actually make the basic things?

IMO he can't be blamed for the 1st at all, and as for the 2nd - he could've tried to sprint back, but it was a ridiculous shot on goal and it went in, world class strike, not much to do there. Where was he on the 3rd or 4th, with both goals being just about in his 6 yard box?
