Tim Howard

I don't really like Howard but what winds me up and has done for a few years is when we have a chance to counter he pretends to throw it and acts likes he is going to and then just doesn't..

And then when we need a breather and shouldn't throw it out quick he does and usually its to an opposition player.

So basically when he should do things he doesn't and when he shouldn't, he does them.

He just annoys me. Sorry Tim.

same with when he should be coming off the line he doesn't and vice versa. ah well, i've given him enough stick over the last few months, hope he can turn it around.

Exactly. Its like his brain goes oh look there's a cross i could/should get but nah..

Two mins later.. I shouldn't go out n try n catch this there's no chance I'll get there but oh well lets go for it!!!

If this is how transfers worked then not many players would move.

The fact is that we are a big club who have some major names in world football playing for us and quite a substantial amount of money. A team like Stoke would find it hard to hold onto Butland if we popped up with £20mil and i suggest he would request a move so he would be in more of a "showcase" with Barkley and Stones for the England team.

When you say £10mil more than they are worth, we are talking about a keeper who can generate 10+ points a season for us rather than costing us points. Additonally its important to remember that such a keeper could be in our side for 15 seasons. Transfer values are increasing year on year so logically in every conceivable way its a good long term purchase.

The decision Martinez has now is firstly whether to sign a keeper at their peak or go for someone of a similar age bracket to the core group. Then he needs to move on someone in England or overseas.

Its all about risk. Does he go for a foreign player who may not adapt to the league or settle in the country OR go for someone with experience in England.

For me, all roads lead to Butland. If there is £20mil (which there should be!) In a transfer pot id be banging down Stokes door.

I feel this position is so important that id be happy with this one signing and then any others coming in from squad player sales.

He also needs to go out and buy the best he possibly can so the rest of the team also see that we are truly going places.

Not everyone needs to buy a new goalkeeper, but the clubs that have goalkeepers aren't going to want to give them away. Stoke, Leicester, West Ham: none of them have any reason to sell their goalkeeper, so going after Butland or Schmeichel or Adrián means we either waste our time or pay £10 million more than they're worth. Which means we don't have £10 million to spend on a backup for Lukaku or an eventual replacement for Kone.

Roberto Martinez has sensible transfer policies in place, which is why I feel confident in saying we will not be signing someone who is a Premier League starter to replace Howard. That has nothing to do with accepting less than the best, because those guys simply aren't the best. We shouldn't settle for a second or third tier keeper while paying through the nose for him. Feel free to vault me.

I don't see any reason to think Stoke would accept £20 million for Butland, though. That's a figure that Everton fans who want Everton to sign him have pulled out of midair, not one that anyone with any knowledge of Stoke has come up with. Stoke's getting just as much TV money as we are next season -- why would they be willing to part with their best player for anything short of a king's ransom?

Because, without sounding arrogant, we are Everton. We bought Lukaku off Chelsea, Del off Barcelona.

Again, you don't play with money on the field. Spend 30mil on a top keeper, not even arsed.

Basically, we need to keep Howard because we're poor. Another excuse for this clown.
don't think anyone said that tbf. people have just said we should look to sign a keeper from continental Europe as it's likely to be better value for the money which would allow Martinez more money to bring in cover in other positions. The reason stoke and leicester are being discussed is because Butland and Schlemiel are being proposed as replacements. We should buy a new keeper in the summer, no ones arguing against that. The debate seems to be if it's worth it to overpay another prem club or buy a GK from outside the league.

I was fishing :( (regarding my post you quoted).

The Dog dominated his six yard box so that would probably would have ruled out the Ings goal.
The Dog was not caught out at his near post ditto the City goal.
And The Dog did not dive half an hour early like the Rooney goal.

Def better than Howard. And talks less crap.. probably.
