Tim Howard

Dead right.

He is on the skids. Coming out with his feet to block attackers as if he was playing in a sunday morning pub league and staying on his line even if the centre is right in front of him are big defects and typical of a keeper who is on the decline.

I can't believe how many points he cost us last season and we can start the tab this season with the two points dropped against LFC.

Don't forget the City game when he let Kolarov score from almost behind the goal

Im all for opinions, but he was statistically the poorest keeper in the league last season by some difference.

Last season most of the squad were terrible, as a team it didn't work for us. Not just because of individual errors, and there were a lot of players, including Howard that were guilty of that. Everyone from the manager down seems to be looking better this season, if we judge them on this season we are looking good and Howard is fine at the moment with a solid team not allowing teams to get shots off left right and center like they did last year.

Howard is declining with age as all players do and more than likely needs to be replaced or have more competition brought in to challenge him. That said, he really is not as bad as some are making out. Even during a poor season he made some superb saves that kept us in games and before anybody get upset and feels the need to point it out I am well aware that he also lost us some points too...
So far this season he has improved since last season - his phobia on corners coming out for the ball is very concerning a corner kick and my BP starts to rise before the kick comes in to the box as he just motionless - saying that he saved us away at Spurs- If he gets injured , and Robles can perform- RM please leave him in this time!

And the two v Watford, and the 1 v City plus the 2 v Liverpool. To balance the equation I think he earned us a point v Spurs. Where would be if we were four points better off? Near the top of the league where we should be considering how well some of our outfield players have played. When we hit a slump in form (every team does in a season) we will rue not capitalising on our good form as once again we'll come a handful of points off fourth and moan how the top 4 is impossible without billions of investment. We'll scratch our heads over the summer and decide that the lack of a mythical 'number 10' was the reason we missed out not because we have a championship standard goalkeeper.

I'm starting to believe you on Howard.

Been fine this season, partly to blame for the Ings goal along with Barkley, West brom less so, 90% him for the Kolarov goal. We need to spend big money on a keeper imo to really kick us on, as ever the issue with everton is whether we have the money.

However Joel is not even close to being the answer

Howard's been terrible for a good 3 or 4 years now. Last season was inexcusable and the City game was inexcusable, the Dawson and Ings goals were ridiculously poor keeping too. Love to know how people still attempt to stick up for him when he's costing Everton points.

Similarly you can say if Lukaku gets his free kick on target from 20 yards out, Kone manages to convert a simple header at WHL & Barkley bothers to pick up his man Sunday last then we're top of the league. You can play that game with every single member of the squad over the season.

As ever in this thread the overreaction is a bit silly. He's 6th-10th level keeper primarily and fluctuates around that level.

Just like people stick up for Barkley as he's been at fault for Dawson & Ings' goals as well. 12/13 & 13/14 were a million miles away from terrible. its this kind of extremism that gets in the way of the reasoned discussion in this thread

Yeah but this was a comparison also including keepers from far worse teams than us who got relegated. Howard's save to shot ratio was extremely low, as in he was cut adrift from the second worst keeper by s higher margin than any of the gaps between the other keepers. The stats showed he was the worst keeper in the league and by quite a distance.

A good keeper improves the team astronomically. You're playing badly but the keeper means you get a draw rather than a loss, confidence remains and before you know it form returns and you are winning. A bad keeper is useless when you're down and keeps stopping momentum when you're playing well which is exactly what kept happening last season. Other teams played badly last season but were kept alive by their keeper. We snowballed into a relegation fight for a myriad of reasons but Howard did absolutely nothing to attempt to steady the ship. Got to a point as fans where it felt like every shot would go in, every corner was a problem, every direct free kick an issue. That was all Howard and after a while it just gets tiring to see him continually undermining what is becoming a good team. We've moved Distin on (another choker holding us back) now it's time for Howard and Barry. Then we will have a team without any bottlers who can challenge properly for the top 4 that we are more than good enough to get.

We were never even close to being in a relegation fight stop posting nonsense.

I'm not hiding the fact that Barkley was partly at fault for both goals, he's had his criticism from me for it.

Ever since he conceded that goal against Stoke at the Britannia in 11/12, Kenwyne Jones scored. He's been shocking. That's not me being erratic or extreme in any way, that's me saying if one part of a team frequently lets the whole team down then they've got to start running out of chances. In 13/14, we would've got a draw against Chelsea if it wasn't for him, probably a win or a draw against Sunderland at home aswell, although Osman was at fault too.

He makes mistakes that people who seek to have low standards can excuse, dating back a few years. Newcastle at home in 2012/13 springs to mind. So does Leicester at home last year, Hull at home, I could go on all day.

Don't get me wrong, he was at one time a very good goalkeeper. We're now left with a goalie who doesn't come off his line, you can't even say he's a good shot stopper anymore when goals like Ighalo's go in.

He's been our first choice goalkeeper for years and for me it says a huge amount that the two best goalkeeping performances in my opinion in that time are Mucha against Man City and Joel against Crystal Palace.
