If Lukaku or who ever had scored any of those goals on Saturday would you have thought it was the Southampton keepers fault and we got lucky. Or would you have thought it was an expected outcome considering all 3 were scored from inside or around the 6 yard line and central to goal?[/QUOTE Lukaku did get one ! :(

Absolute bull [Poor language removed]
The biggest peice of rubbish I've read for many a long year
Are you for real
Look at de gea you telling me he's not one of the main reasons Utd are top 3
He's won countless MOM
And he's been their player of the months for October & November

Yes we need to score goals, but they scored with there 1st shot on goal and I'm pretty sure with there 2nd too
Think you need to stick to NFL

lol at you thinking we would be top 4 De Gea in goal.

Iit's going over your head how easy some of those goals were on Saturday and have been so far this season. You expect the last line of defence to save the day while the rest of the squad is being walked past, time and time again, its been so easy, i could understand if "goal of the month" was going past us all the time but its not the case.

The other thing you dont uderstand is to get 3 points you have to score at least one goal, we could of had De Gea at the weekend but a 0 0 is only one point.

There are problems in most positions, yes, but this is the Howard thread.

He's not saving many, and that's the problem. How is that not costing us?

No he isn't saving many, your right, ill be honest he has been crap this season and his best is behind him, but too many people are trying to make Evertons poor form is all down to him and it isn't. The way our defence has allowed the opponent to get into such easy goal scoring positions its understandable he is leaking as badly as he is.

You only have to read back through this thread and see some of the games we didn't win and people try and blame Howard as the sole reason, some of it is ridiculous. Yeah he messed up at Spurs but then you also had games like Man City and posts about how he should of done better with the pen and how it was his fault we didn't get anything at Old Trafford because of he didn't boot the ball out, when United still had 40 yards to go and no one did anything to try and stop them...etc

This thread has been right at the top of the board since Saturday, a game we played awful in and he wasn't at fault for the goals but he is the only player some people want to talk about. Saturday night he should of been the least of our worries, while we talk about him were missing the bigger picture.

Thing is though last season was his first good season in ages, season before that we all wanted rid.

He isn't good enough.

He has had a good career with us and people like him. So he should do what Cahill did and leave before his now poor ability ruins what people think of him.

yep, said this. i admitted i was possibly wrong at the end of last season for saying we should have replaced him, but i've changed my view again ha. he's too unreliable at the end of the day, had been for a good few seasons before last season. like jagielka and distin they had their best season for a while. they've all let us down terribly this season.

don't say this much but....this

In hindsight ahould have sold as soon as he had that one good game for USA...played well last season fpr the first time in donkeys then sees robles isnt going toget a chance and puts his feet up.

Used to like his attitude but the way he sliced friedel was pathetic.

To be honest and with respect, who gives a flying swear word how he did last season and at the world cup?

It means literally nothing right now.
I don't disagree with any of this. Think I've said as much here. Memories get fuzzy, and I can't help but correct them. I truly wish we had a decent backup who could step in at least for a run of games, but our backup looks worthless, and it appears might fall over every time he has to move his feet. If Howard can't rediscover form, then find a replacement in the summer. We're not going to find a top replacement for any sort of fair money in January. It won't happen.

Yep, you're only as good as your last game.

The summer's activities count for nothing right now.

That previous form isn't helping right now though. A couple of bad games, then fair enough, but a poor half season requires prompt action, be that a spell on the sidelines, singing a different keeper entirely or simply extra work and training practice.
No argument here. Unfortunately we have no realistic replacement right now. If we had anything like a real backup, I'd say plop him on the bench for a run, but we don't.

I can understand the points made that Howard may no be culpable in regard to many of the goals but problems lie with the defence. It can be said that a goalkeeper is only as good as his defence but in Howard's case this is not quite so clear A good defence also needs to know that they have a reliable keeper behind them. How many times does Howard come off his line to intercept crosses or corners for example? or how much does he shout at the defenders when really he could have done better?

For me I think we have enough out players taking into account the younger players coming through and should be looking at signing a new GK. But is my opinion others will disagree.

The reason Howard had such a great season last year is simply down to the change of philosophy, formation and the personal.

Philosophy - Martinez brought a more controlled, patient and attacking play. This made teams play much deeper and very few pushed high up against Everton last year and the teams that did i.e Lpool, City, Palace managed to score quite easily.

Formation - Again benefited Howard having 2 deep laying midfielders in Barry & McCarthy. They helped stem the pace in midfield and stop most attacks before getting to our final third.

Personal - The additions of Barry, McCarthy, Lukaku plus the emergence of Barkley gave teams more to think about so less attacking from them.

Our big problem with is also Howard is we have been found out. Teams know we have players who are off the boil (Distin & Barry) plus no new attacking additions so we are basically the same team as last year.

The same goals we conceded last year are the same as this year but just a lot more.

Howard is ROOTED to the line on crosses, free kicks & one on ones so if he does come off it he is too slow to react.

He isn't helping us but player such as Distin and Barry are more droppable then Tim.
