Tim Howard - new contract

Good stuff, best 'keeper since Martyn, no real need to replace him any time soon, would hope to bring in someone who can challenge him consistently for the number one spot over the next year if that someone isn't Joel "What's that white round thing flying towards me" Robles, but even at 38/39 I can imagine him being a good squad option.
Haha cant say he had much competition. Richard Wright, Iain Turner? And John Ruddy deffo deserved more of a chance.

What's Naismith doing in this thread?

Fair enough, but he's done a fairly solid job for us. I don't think he's one of the best, but I can't name anyone who we could bring him who'd be substantially better, and none that would command less than a hefty fee.

Good news, he looks like he will stay a quality keeper for the duration of his contract. It's great to see the old guard show their confidence in what's being built here and displays of loyalty from the experienced players is important in that regard.

He does need some serious competition though, I'm not convinced by Joel yet.

He was so close to saving those two Palace shots considering they where right in the corner, although he was nowhere for that header like.

in any argument on FB with some Timmah haters who can't see beyond yesterday's mess. As if noone else on the team had a horrorshow of a performance at some point this season.

any real way to compare keepers with stats? Went to premierleague.com and all it had was something EA sports used to compare GK's. (Howard was 4th... )

Happy with him getting 4 years.

I don't see him being first choice in 3/4 years time anyway so hopefully we'll have a new keeper during that spell who can eventually replace him towards the end. (Sit back down, Robles).

Thanks, Legs! Also dug up this swell chart. Funny the network with the worst TV coverage had a useful page of data.

Cheers for that, never go think to check on Fox. Thank goodness NBC got the league this year.

Amen to that. If Fox's coverage weren't bad enough, the comparison between Rebecca Lowe and co vs. Wynalda and and yammering lids is the rough equivalent of EFC playing my high school's JV team. I abhor the Fox studio team. Never mind the couple shots I've heard them take at Everton... or at Man U referencing them playing like Everton.
