Tim Howard and Goodison

He just looked so weird diving after shots, the amount of times shots were curled around him from distance. Remember Petrov scored from about 40 yards against us once and every time I watch that goal I wonder how on earth it actually beat him, the shot barely got off the ground.

It wasn't Howard's fault he was picked for the last 18 months, despite being well past his best. This 'soured' his relationship with the fans, when in all truth, it was Martinez's fault in picking him. I'd like to remember Howard as the competent keeper (nothing more) that he was for the majority of his time here.
Thats all he was a very good shot stopper in his prime - Fergie would never have let him go if he had been half decent as back up - a good servant yes - his last two years were woeful I stated it would cost RM his job, rightly so , and it did because how many games did he lose us ? chelsea away 2-0 up cruising the game was a prime example - one wonder game in the world cup and his contract was unnecessary increased to three years - even DM would not go in for Josh Butland for a mere million, because of the faith he had in him it was not his fault he never had any competition until Robles broke through - all in all never the worst Keeper we have ever had like any player his career was a good one with us fading away we kept to long not his fault.
we still need that elusive solid keeper - Robles still unproven shown glimpses of both sides of keeping - best keepers we have had - Westy, Wood, Big Nev (world class), Nigel Martyn - Howard was an in between in that list, but vfm wise served us well when he first came, stayed far too long - not his fault!

Best thing I can say about him is, he wasn't the worst keeper I've seen at Everton.
Yes we have a big list of those - David Lawson on a record signing, that's why we have to be careful big money does not guarantee you a great Keeper, only Gordon West in my lifetime proved that to be correct!

Was a good keeper for us for a long while. Let's not forget the absolute dross before him - Paul Gerrard (actually hate him), Richard Wright, Simonsen etc.

Just because the three you mention were poor goalkeepers doesn't make Tim Howard a good one, he was an average
goalkeeper always not far away from a cock up. That is, in my opinion.

For about half of his time here he genuinely was every bit as bad as those keepers as well. Between 06-10 he was pretty agreeable mid-level keeper, once he passed his prime he absolutely plummeted off a cliff.

Utter fraud him!!

Far better gk than some of the comments on here suggest. He played for one of the most inept defensive coaches the sport has ever seen so the end was never going to be a good one for Tim.

Will always love him for the penalty saves in the Man U semi - my son's first trip to Wembley and the scenes at the end were amazing - I mean we all feared the worst in the shoot out, especially when Cahill missed the first. Having lost the three trips to Wembley since it will be a memory I will treasure, the sheer joy on my son's face was wonderful. Don't miss his star jumps or flopping down in the wrong direction of the ball as it hits the net though.
