Yeah, I mean neither Everton nor Liverpool have ever professed to have any religious affiliation - we both came from a Methodist church. We also have a C of E church in the corner of the ground in St. Luke's, so whenever people try to raise the religious question in Merseyside football my initial reaction is to say "no more of that thanks". It's a myth largely.
Yes we had a few Irish players in the 50's but we also had a massive following on Netherfield Road (Protestant). A few Irish players doesn't make you a Catholic team, just as the Scottish players we had in the '60's didn't make us a Protestant team. We currently have Mo Besic - does that mean we're a Muslim team? Nah....
My family, like many others, were Orange Lodge members (although we gave that up long ago), and were all blues from Kirkdale. Equally, I know many members here who can tell the same tale but are from Catholic families.
This isn't 1953 or Glasgow. If you choose your football team based on religion then you're losing at life. For me, the same can be directed at politics.

Last time i looked (about 3 weeks ago) Merseyside was going from strength to strength. If the evil tories have been trying to destroy Merseyside and the nhs for decades they are being very inefficient about it. And I'm struggling to understand where supporting a certain football club means you have to hold a certain political opinion. Of course it could be that if you don't have a valid argument in a debate then just name call and villify your opponent.

Read your history. Look at what Thatcher tried to do and did. Look at how much the Tories are taking away from local councils.
The fact that Merseyside hasn't been destroyed is testament to the fight and character of the people. Doesnt take away from the fact the Tories are evil.
* just to add to this pertinent point that some of you regular posters in this forum may like to note that the football team you profess to follow is from this Merseyside place and is proud of its locally identity

I wish it was only a sorry But it's grim reality. Or are you ok with people having to use foodbanks that the Tories try to deny is happening. Are you happy for the Tories to bring in the bedroom tax and people forced out of family homes? Are you happy for people to have committed suicide because of benefits being taken away and forced back to work? That is the evilness from the Tories try and deny it as much as you like but those things have happened.
