Thomas Graveson - One of our best?

The great thing about that year was so many players who'd been poor the year before (Gravesen and Martyn especially) just found an extra six gears from somewhere and started playing out of their skins.

Indeed. Still amazes me how a team filled with the likes of Pistone, Kilbane and Bent reached 4th place.

I absolutely love The Grav.

Utter mentalist. I love those types of players.

Remember Temuri Ketsbaia? he was a mentalist.

Liked both Carsley and Gravesen but for me, Carsley was one of my favorite players when he was here.

Epitomized Everton in terms of hard work and humility.

Gravesen was a real Jekyll & Hyde player for me. He was either brilliant or a waste of space and you could often tell from the 1st 5 minutes which it was going to be.

Like some others, I preferred Carsley - more consistent & provided the balance to that team.

The one thing i would say is that Carsley knew his job and limitations . Tommy Grav thought he was better then he was .He was good last year or so but like others have said more a cult hero then a genuine legend of the club.

he was superb in his last 6 months. but VERY hit and miss for the other 4 years or so. still like him though and was gutted when he left.

That analogy doesn't really make sense seeing as Lennon was an inferior musician and McCartney was a much more important part of the Beatles for a long time.

Hmmmmmm beg to differ. They were more equal IMO and Lennon has more credits to the Beatles songs than McCartney. Depends in your taste of music I thought Lennons lyrics were more meaningful whilst McCartney was more melodic.

Graveson over Carsley for me but both players were limited and had equally shiney heads

Gravesen ,in the grand scheme of great Everton midfielders,a load of ****e,in the same way Duncan Ferguson was,
When we were that bad and desperate for a "Hero" they fitted the bill,
Not fit to fasten the laces of players who have gone before them.
I genuinely feel sorry for those blues who feel the above were "great"
Gravesen imo had a very good six months before he got the move to Madrid and was very inconsistent(to say the least) before that.

Sorry, Ferguson "****e"? In his prime one of the best strikers in the league. Him and Jelavic up front today, I would jizz.
And that's exactly what heroes do, they fit the bill, they are what they are a lot of the time because of timing. There were dark days in the 90s at Goodison, and Big Dunc was a bit of light. Club legend.

Agreed. Big Dunc would have been a great player for Everton at any period on time. If he was in his prime he'd fit perfectly into the current squad without any issues

Carsley was better than Gravesen surprised some people think otherwise.

When Carsley left we didn't look anywhere near as good as we were, took a while for us to recover.

There was a period of time when he was injured, we were rubbish and he came back and we went good again.

Underrated player.

Grav is my favourite everton player of all time, almost exclusively for the time I saw him riding his motorbike down Lark Lane, wearing one of those helmets with horns on.

An absolute legend, on and off the pitch.
