Boss player for us, was suprised when he went to Real Madrid though as he was More of a grafter than a world class player.

Carsley was the grafter, not Gravesen.

Gravesen was the playmaker at teh time. Still think Madrid accidentally signed the wrong player though. They were looking for a holding player.

I Think they where both grafters but Gravesen was better on the ball.Out of the two he was the playmaker but he also put a lot of effort into his game.

Gravesen was the boss lad.

Carsley was class but comparing him to Gravesen is just a joke.

He would just control the pace of games. He was fantastic

Ohhh tommy tommy tommy tommy tommy tommy Gravesen.... Every home game from the St End before the game kicked off without fail!!!

He'd always clench his fist at us. Class act!!!

He had that half a season during 04/05 where he looked a cut above but that aside he was painfully inconsistent throughout his time here.

Surprised people hold him in such high regard.

Laughing at some of the comments here.

Gravedigger was boss as soon as he was moved from RM where he played under Smith to a more central position under Moysey. Some games, especially against inferior opposition, he controlled single-handedly, and was the outstanding player on the pitch.

When the 4-5-1 was first introduced (and later copied by other teams) he was the man who played the killer passes throught to the striker(s), and he was very good at it. In fact it got him a transfer to Madrid, although as has been said, strangely they seemed to want to play him in a different position.

Top lad and a superb player for Moyes' first Everton team.

Gravesen did a lot of headless chicken stuff at times, which Carsley would negate by just being the type of player he was...losing him didn't help us, though, so it's not like he was crap or anything. He was defo a couple tacos short of a combination plate. Cars and Grav canceled out each others' weaknesses so they were an example of the sum being greater than its parts.

Gravesen was very inconsistent in his first three and a half years at Goodision. He was class in his final 18 months. I think he was about to sign a new contract before Madrid came calling. When he came back on loan, he barely featured. One of our best? I wouldn't say so. I'd describe him as a cult figure.

Agreed.

Anyone waxing lyrical about his performances prior to the year we came 4th has a distorted memory imo.

The great thing about that year was so many players who'd been poor the year before (Gravesen and Martyn especially) just found an extra six gears from somewhere and started playing out of their skins.

Many of them were within the last year of their contracts!
