Everton Alumni Thomas Gravesen

He was excellent in that period when he had Carsley and Cahill behind him tracking runners and he was free to go marauding to great effect. So much energy and drive and plenty quality too.

Still, pushing Cahill forward into his position and the arriving Arteta into the deeper one when Tommy left must be one of the most successful replacements we’ve ever managed.

Galactico for a reason, we missed him and didn't replace him when he left, happy Birthday 🎂 🎂!

A great foil and scruff of the neck pairing
With Carsley who learnt a lot from him.

What Gomes and Gbamin should of been under Silva without the horrendous injuries.

What Garner and Rohl should watch, on how to propell Everton into the top four placings.

we replaced him with Arteta who was our best player that decade

Overrated but a fun player. Crazy Real Madrid signed him. I read this week that the proper Ronaldo named him as the worst player he ever played with.

I remember Burnley away pre season, our fans erupting going mad then all singing his name because he was ankle biting one of their players and winning a throw in near the half way line

Was also at his debut at Tannadice for Maurice Malpas' testimonial. Gazza's first game for Everton as well. Dundee United beat us 2-1 iirc.

sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe sh.. for about 4 years

then in 04/05 he was one of the best players in the league and got his move to Madrid

his reputation outside the club was of this tough tackling workhorse but he was very much the opposite. technically skilled but not much defensive discipline in his game

I’m convinced real madrid really meant to sign lee carsley. i think the athletic ought to do a deep dive on it

second spell i don’t think he did anything bar a corner for lescotts winner on his first game back and scoring in shoot out against fiorentina

considering we after after the likes of fernandes, riquelme and moutinho that summer and ended up with him i think that was the first big sign we were always gonna be limited under bill in the moyes reign
Maybe they thought him and Carsley were the same player. So they though they were buying a technically skilled enigma with great positioning and defensive skills.

Forgot to mention I went to Goodison to get tickets for Bristol Rovers away in the LC. He's was getting a photo shoot done on Goodison Road. I walked passed and goes "Alright, Tommy". He stops the shoot and shouts me back to ask what game I got tickets for. I've always thought he wanted more of a convo but I was a shy teenager at the time so he only got a "Bristol Rovers" back. Always regretted not talking more to him tbh.

Looking at it from 2026 eyes, knowing how unapproachable players are now, it was quality of him.

Love stuff like this.

I miss his clenched fist and grimace to the fans, whipping up some noise before taking revved-up (and often inaccurate ) throw-ins.

My ma used to deal with him quite often where she worked when I was a kid.

Some of the lads she worked with were blues and he’d always give them the time of day.
