2025/26 Thierno Barry

Not really. Works both ways too. Haaland for example at RB was clearly destined for greater things. Potential is pretty ethereal as you can't measure it accurately. As fans we can provide an opinion, its up to the player to realise the potential. Dele Alli looked for all to see a world beater at one point, then fell off a cliff edge. FWIW, I'm not writing Barry off, but I don't think he's ever gonna be a 20 goal as season player.

He wouldn’t have been 30m if he looked like he was ever going to be a 20 goal a season striker. Look at the list of strikers who have scored 20 goals over the past 10-15 years and estimate how much they’d cost today.

For context, Lukaku achieved it once while in the premier league and the end of that season he was sold for 75m (9 years ago). Isak has just gone for 125m having done it twice in the PL

If he turns into a 10-15 goal a season striker we’ll have done really well.

Still acclimating to this league although he didn't score , I thought he was solid yesterday , linked up play was able to knock down balls, made clever runs, was good on the ball. For me he's displaying progress , compare yesterday's performance to his lackluster Crystal Palace showing, there's a drastic contrast. I know he squandered a golden opportunity during the Sunderland match , instead of being deflated and letting the whiff negatively affect his confidence against Fulham, he soldiered on. Demonstrates a certain resolve which he can continue to exert

Im not buying the new country and age thing as an excuse I'm afraid. Look at Jude Bellingham going from Championship to Bundesliga. Lots of young footballers move and make instant impacts. What is true is adapting to a tough league irrespective of age or nationality and working to a new managers systems. Lad done ok today. Said before though, he'll never be prolific.
Yes just look at Jude Bellingham, the most hyped and highly rated young English player of a generation.

It's not one size fits all. Some players come out the academy as near enough fully formed footballer like Yamal. Some players go the long route but still become elite level players like Harry Kane.

Saying he'll never be prolific because he hasn't hit the ground running moving to the Premier Leage at 22 is just daft. Countless examples of players who moved here at a similar age and took a year at least to settle and adapt, most obvious current example being Mateta.
