2025/26 Thierno Barry

Here are the league leaders for goals scored.

Since Barry and Beto are almost never on the pitch at the same time - one starts the game, and the other subs around the 70-minute-mark or so - let's consider them as a single player.

That player, the Everton Striker of the Particular Moment, would have 16 goals (they have 8 each on the season).

That would give said amalgamation the third-highest goal total among pure strikers, trailing only Haaland and Thiago and ahead of such as Joao Pedro, Gyorkeres, DCL, Welbeck, Ollie Watkins, and Etitike.

for each of their individual failings, that's impressive. It's also a pure head scratcher. What to do?
Fairest way to look at it is mins per goal really. Richarlison for example barely ever plays 90 mins so you can’t put Barry and Beto as one striker and ignore all the others on the list who also get subbed.

Most of the players on your list also have better mins per goal than either of them. (At least 10 have better than Beto)

And if you did the same for the other clubs would they still come third? Just asking.

That's true.

Combined, Beto/Barry have a goal every 201', over 3209'. Seems not great but in looking at the comparables it's by no means bad - it's quite respectable.

For discussions sake I'll posit that our dissatisfaction comes from-

-the eye test/body language. Beto can score but when he scuffs it, it's awful - no one since Oumar Niasse has looked as clumsy at his worst moments. And Barry looks like he's can't be bothered most of the time, whether that's fair or not.

-unreliability. Both of them go through long dry spell but then score in bunches. The hot streaks are great, but when neither of them looks like they can buy a goal, it can lead to despair - can remember thinking at many times when we were down a goal this season that it was utterly hopeless that they'd come good.

-failure of either one to grab the job and keep it

-service. We're not nearly as bad as the worst Everton teams - who can forget the anesthetic effect of Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson stroking sideways passes to each other 40 yards out for minutes on end - but it's an indictment that Grealish is still second with 6 assists (Garner has 7) and he's been out for so long. We've discussed the issues around the midfield setup, use of Dibling, Alcaraz, etc., the lack of progressive fullbacks, ad nauseam but it's fair to say that the current setup is not optimized for chance creation.

Compare to the below.

Maybe and it probably will. But i would rather keep a player that looks part for a team and does things etc, than one that seems to do not much and play for himself, then acts like he's the world's greatest forward while comparing himself to certain way better players

Wtf are you on about? How has barry acted like he thinks hes the worlds greatest striker?

I like beto but how does he do things for the team?

Before he hit his purple patch he looke like he couldn't give less of a toss to be playing for us. Getting subbed on and literally walking around the pitch.

Lets not forget beto started as our main striker this season and played himself out of the team. Wasnt doing much for the team then was he?

Dont get me wrong barry came in, did well and then played himself out of the team as well like.

Beto hit a good purple patch, same as barry this season but people decided barry was crap 2 games in and now their desperate for the lad to fail just so they can be right

I see that after just one full season at Bournemouth, Man City are rumoured to be in for the #3 on that list, Junior Kroupi.

Also, what a signing Thiago has been for Brentford.

Just goes to show that we have our work cut out, trying to find upgrades on the current two.

When we’re extending the likes of Keggers, it’s not hard to make a case for keeping both and extending Beto.

Barry probably has more potential upside tho, both in terms of output and transfer value.

Of course Barry has more potential upside, because right now he can't trap a ball or avoid been pushed off the ball by 7-stone weaklings. ideally we replace both.

I mean, ideally we would do lots of things that don’t look like happening (this summer, at least).

Get the feeling that Barry has shown enough for them not to punt him into the sun after just one season.
