2025/26 Thierno Barry

Have to disagree with you there I'm afraid. To talk up Dom's finishing ability would be to rewrite history.

I was a supporter of DCL and one of those that would have kept him over Beto, but I've watched him be played through on goal and hit it straight at the keeper more times than I can count.

And while I agree that we have a much better calibre of creative player at the club this season, both my eyes and the available data show me that we haven't translated that into a system that actually creates chances.
Just have to look at what he’s done at Leeds this season.

I’m not even talking up DCL’s finishing. Just that it’s no worse than Barry’s and at 23 he offered much more and looked a far better player. End of.

How any times last Armstrong on the left in the second half got space to cross, looked up and Barry is just standing there, zero movement its shocking for a 30mil player, like shocking.

The biggest problem at this football club is the scouting and recruitment.
You could argue that having a 19 year old centre mid at left wing who kept understandably instinctively kept coming back inside to pass it backwards might be the reason Barry doesn't bother. Zero fullbacks yesterday and one actual winger. If we had haaland in our team last night we still wouldn't have scored. We would have kept kicking it long to the corners and hoped for a mistake or a set piece

He looked up to cross at least 4-5 times in the 2nd half then passed it, there was nothing on, no movement at all.

I think his finishing is definitely worse than Barry's to be fair, so we're at something of an impasse.
I suppose it depends how broad your definition of finishing is. If we're talking about one on ones etc then we know DCL could be terrible, but if we're including heading and getting on the end of things in the six yard box, you'd be hard pushed to say Barry has looked better so far I think.

I'll give it to DCL for headed goals tbf yeah. One touch finishes in the box I think they're both good.

I suppose when you talk about definition of finishing it comes down to 'what do I want my striker to have in his toolbox?' Dom had a lot of tools in his locker, but for me that 1v1 finishing is a bit of a non-negotiable. If you play your striker through on goal with just the keeper to beat, you have to feel like he's going to score for me.

Seems like a striker that wants to score goals (crazy I know) and isn't all that intetested in playing with his back to goal, constantly closing down or battling out with defenders. Unfortunately, if you play for Moyes, that's what you have to be.

If we are gong to continue to play him, we need the ball wide, with overlapping full backs or letting him run into space. We don't get wide, we don't get players near him and we constantly play into his feet.

We might as well play Keane up front if Moyes is insistent on playing him. He'd be good at doing what Fellaini did for us, backing into defenders and chesting/heading the ball on.
You lost me at " overlapping fullbacks"....maybe start with " fullbacks that arent over 6 foot by design"

This is a fair take on his game last night, though I would agree with posters who are questioning what exactly it was that any of Barry, KDH, Ndiaye and Armstrong were supposed to be doing with the ball in the Utd half.

Keep playing long balls in behind and not getting anyone up to support at all. Best case scenario is usually them finding a backwards pass to the fullback.
Hate to flog a dead horse but if the players dont really know what their roles are in the attacking end...wtf do Moyes and his boys do during the week...in this case 2 weeks. Im beyond sick of him

Missed one against Bournemouth too. Keeper spilled a tame shot and he miscued the rebound. I think there will be other examples too.

I get what you're saying and that's why I waited until he'd played 20 odd games. I want it to work but also just don't see enough potential never mind ability.
He missed two clear chances against Bournemouth. 6 yards from goal in first half and then at start of second half he should have buried it.

After watching him in the Bournemouth game and last night at all those corners I have given up that he should be starting games. He has no sign of the aggression and in-your-face attitude that a proper forward needs.

Keane or O Brien would be more of a threat up front and that's no joke.

I think this is probably the biggest criticism of him and the main reason people seem to be picking him apart every game.

They see a 6'5 striker and assume we're signing Duncan Ferguson mark II

DCL is a far better player than Barry if you can't see that then football is not for you, his hold up play is a different level to Barry.

Leeds fans are already saying its refreshing to have a striker that can get us up the pitch.

Barry the ball just bounces off him or he doesn't win anything in the air.

If a ball gets crossed into the box I would sooner have DCL on the end of it than Barry
