2025/26 Thierno Barry

Physically he can improve. The league requires more strength and aggression. 100% something he will be able to work on.

Regarding how comfortable he is with the ball, not many 23 year olds that will have been in academies since they were 8 will be able to miraculously improve their control with a bit of practice. He will have had a ball at his feet for hours a day, 5 days a week, for over a decade. What you see is what you get.

Now he will challenge for most aerial balls (he didn’t initially, only ones he could win) he’s winning more flick ons, and he has shown he can convert chances with decent reliability.

If had crazy movement, silky skills and strength he’d have been miles out of our price range. Let’s use the attributes he has rather than focussing on those he simply never ever will.

I’d have given anything to have gotten Woltemade instead before a ball was kicked this year. Amazing feet and looked great to watch. He is really really struggling after an ok start. Barry has bagged us some decent points with his recent goals. You’d have to think if he hadn’t gone on that run of goals we’d have loaned a striker in Jan.

I don’t see tonnes of potential improvement for him other than know-how and strength. But if he keeps scoring, that’s totally fine.

If we swapped DCL for Barry right now, watch DCL goals dry up and Barry start to slot. We are just not a team that creates chances for strikers, and it’s a very hard slog for him up there. Barry loves to compare himself to Rom (remember we all loathed his first touch too) so let’s hope Barry goes away in the summer and comes back absolute shredded. He’ll cause a few problems if he can batter a few defenders about.

I reckon my two year old daughter beats him in an arm wrestle

Okay finisher. Prem isn’t for him

He's got the grace of it being his first season. But look at Quatarra yesterday. He pulled Newcastle apart. He cost them 42m but its no coincidence the two clubs who've bought him. Bournemouth and brentford. They scout players with pace and power who can play a bit as well. I dont see Barry even in a years time being able to occupy a defence like Quatarra did yesterday. It isnt just about goals. Its about the threat you carry not only as an individual but pulling defenders out of position for team mates to run into.
If i was scouting for Everton he's the complete opposite style of player i'd be looking to bring in.
