Transfer Rumour Thierno Barry

not really, hes scored 11 goals but he should of scored 12.

So the chances hes missed equates to 1 goal. So either hes missed a shed load of shots from places of low xg that he was never going to score from (outside the box or really poor angels) or hes missed a few really good chances (which could be a miss on his part or keepers making fantastic saves).

So which ever way you look at it the xg says hes not missing alot of clear cut chances.
I was just joshing you chief

But thanks for clarifying with this

As someone who also loves baseball, it's hilarious seeing football fans fighting the exact same "stats vs. eye test" war that baseball fans already fought 25 years ago. (BTW, stats won the war in a rout).
I don't dispute the stats but it takes the enjoyment out of sports.

It puts paid to discussion and opinion.

I like sitting in the pub with my mates and discussing why I think said player is good or bad from how I view the game.

As soon as you pull a stats and pie charts it ends all debate.

It's boring.

Also, as we're not the ones actually doing the scouting for the club there's no real point to it other than being able to be correct on the internet. And as far as I know, no one bothers trying to do that..

Oh, hang on...

Lol, and that perfectly describes the new war baseball has moved onto as well. We've all conceded that stats do the best job at predicting and optimizing performance, but now many people hate the way the game is played and discussed.

You mean the stats that professional football scouts use?

The eye test trumps nothing because people are blinded by bias and as such see what they want to see most of the time.

Stats are facts not opinion and theres a reason why teams are finding major success signing players using these stats. Only have to look across the park to see that.
So let me get this straight in my own mind.
So Barry takes up a position on the edge of the six yard box with only the keeper between him and the back of the net,now let's say Pape Gueye beats a player on the edge of the box but slightly over runs the ball so ends up blasting it in Barry's direction from about 4 meters away and and before he can react it hits his knee and goes over the bar.
So that's a big chance missed and becomes part of his "stats"?

The nerdiest of all sports, and that's why I love it.

Imagine the Gwladys asking what the FIP is, mid game? 😂
