They Don't Get It Do They?

The players are not good enough. They are the 7th best team in the premier no doubt but players like baines, jags, williams, barry are past it and not 1 of them would get near the starting 11 of any if the top 6th. The younger lads need time to prove themselves and one cant write them off yet to be fair. When we ship out that lit and bring in real top players proven players , mid 20s , we might challange top 6.

Ffp - abide by it and stay best of the rest. We need serious quality adding in just about every position to sustain a top 4 season.

I'd be tempted to disregard it, just spend whatever it takes and then if finish top 4 and banned from CL for a year so what, we're no worse off but have the ability to go on and keep doing so until the 3 years or whatever it is are passed.

Or I might not understand the rules properly...

I don't think it would help that you were bringing in Champions League players only for them to have to go another year or whatever it would be with no champions league haha. Plus mate that would literally cost us £250 million. We aren't Man U

It's a combination of a mentality issue and also having lesser quality than them. The two redshite pundits each mentioned these two things. They have always had much better players than us, plus being a derby they give 100% effort (as opposed to games they take for granted against the likes of Swansea, Burnley etc.), therefore effort alone won't beat them as their quality will overcome ours. Essentially we are relying on luck (our best chance was perhaps when Gerrard got sent off a few years back and they beat us with 10 players...even then we had Phil Neville in midfield against Xabi Alonso..so that cancels out the extra man we had).

I think if we had Schneiderlin today it would have been a different game...we missed him so badly as Barkley is too wreckless and lacks a football brain while Davies is just a kid. The RS were at their weakest with that turd Lucas in there with Henderson and Lallana missing.

Someone touched on it but look at the forwards they have had over the years in the winless run...Owen, Torres, Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho, Mane. They have destroyed us with their pace, movement and quality. They have had an endless stream of top attacking players, we have had the ilk of Osman, Beattie, Bent and co. Lukaku is easily the best forward we've had in the PL era, but he can be nullified as he is heavily reliant on service...he's not going to pull defenders all over the place. He's static, slow on the turn, weak first touch...he can't produce on his own. He's quiet for long spells against better quality opposition. If he's not scoring he does nothing...he's almost the opposite to big Dunc in this respect as the big man wasn't the most prolific of scorers but he was always a presence.

The players do get it, the effort is there, unfortunately the quality isn't.

With senior pros like Jagielka & Baines, it's not going to change. Been bottling derbies/big games for last decade. Too nice, don't want it badly enough, it's become contagious thru whole club. Harsh, but true.

You can only bottle something when you are expected to win, when have we been expected to beat them mate? They are favourites to beat us every time as they have had better quality players than us. How did Phil Neville bottle it when he came up against Xabi Alonso? How did Jagielka bottle it every time when he came up against Suarez? Did Davie Weir bottle it when Owen tore him to pieces?

The majority on here thought Everton would win.

Need to recruit some men not a bunch of whimpering school boys. Cahill had no problem turning up against this lot, neither did Ferguson, but there's not one talisman in this team who backs himself, not one.
Mentioned something similar in the match thread with relation to Simeone.
