People say it wasn't a lack of fight. I don't understand that. Our defending was woeful. Not entirely due to quality. That third goal- you don't play that cool and calm when the other's team is pressing AND its a derby game. Disgusting leadership from the pros today. Ross and Holgate had little turf amongst themselves in the game at some point. We simply weren't ready, not just tactically but more importantly mentally. I blame the experienced players for this. It's Jags, Williams, Barry, maybe even Baines. We missed Seamus's never say die attitude.
And Rom blurting he wants to move to a bigger club doesn't help our cause either. He was useless today also by the way. It's almost like the one bad game we have, where everything goes wrong, is against them. All the time. If they make deals with the Devil, it's about time we start making deals with the angels. This loss hurts on many aspects. It was supposed to be the dawn of a new era. It clearly isn't. It's weird how this game seems to have removed any stadium excitement i had!
If we want a role model, take a look at Atletico Madrid and what Simeone has done. It's nothing short of a miracle. They hadn't beaten Real in 14 years or something like that. How did they do it? They played with a resilient mentality, where they would fight for every ball like their life depended on it. Even though they were the worse team, they played with so much effort and believed that they could match their opponents. And more importantly, they make very little mistakes. They had a point to prove- that the times where Real out shadowed them were a thing of the past. I'm not saying Koeman should change his tactics to play like Atletico. That would be very boring. And not to mention that Liverpool haven't overshadowed us nearly as much as Real did Atletico. But we need to play every game like it's a final. Approach every game with the mentality that we will end up victorious at the end, and most of the time you will!
Whatever the case. Koeman's got a serious problem to address. Not regarding the quality of the players. Not regarding the fact that he made many tactical mistakes. The first thing he needs to address is the club's mentality. If we're going to be great again, if NSNO is every going to be lived up to Everton FC need to believe in themselves.
