That £50k saved is probably paying Godfrey's wages for the year. Plus they will have paid a loan fee too.
No point in keeping him if he wont be used, or when he is, he's ineffective
if we are analysing our outlay, you have to include wages. that's what makes Sandro such a crock. If we didn't you would only have half the picture. I agree it wouldn't be appropriate if they were in the side and playing well. but if we sign players for big wages and then never use them that is just flushing money down the drain.
Palace pay Zaha over £100k/week. Same with Benteke. Why can't Southampton do that?

Does he though? I dont think he does.
He's only got year left and saving 2.2m on his wages for 9months makes sense, rather than having him in the reserves and paying £2.2m extra for it.
We aren't in the strongest position.

2 mill from Walcott and 2.7 mill from Kean, in addition to 16 mill in other outgoing in wages this summer, we've shaved aprox just North of 20 mill of the wage bill. Less whatever else we have taken on.

Simple... Because they know he's not worth it and so wouldn't pay it.
From our point of view, losing 50k a week on his wages while he's playing for Southampton is better than losing 100k a week on his wages when he's 3rd choice on the bench.
