It is absolutely insane to have that argument of demanding why they backed him - its obvious why they did it. What they should be demanding is that social media firms now must lose their protection under Section 230, given that they are now, clearly and unarguably, media publishers playing the traditional role of power-broker and influence-peddler that media publishers adopt.

This should be an easy argument to make given that large swathes of the GOP, including Trump, spent years making this same argument when they thought that the firms were backing the other side.

While it’s not known for sure why they declined, the speculation is that it’s over disagreements about use of force. Considering that Trump’s own defense secretary nominee said a few days ago that he agreed with using the military to shoot protestors, I can easily see why any agency not bound by jurisdiction to assist would want to swerve this. Also, Trump has an EXTENSIVE track record of refusing to pay overtime for departments who provide security for his events.
