Deporting criminals is a reasonable measure that most people can support. However, forcibly removing entire families and deporting millions en masse is madness
A few years ago there was a bipartisan effort in the House to try to revamp the antiquated and flawed H2A visa process which is the only legal way that a lot of the undocumented agricultural workers could be in the country.
Modernizing the temporary visa program, and establishing a pathway to citizenship for long-term undocumented agricultural workers, is urgently needed to protect America’s agriculture industry and farmworkers alike.

It was a long way from being a perfect bill but it would have been a start at fixing some of the issues.

Vance said publicly recently (paraphrasing) they'd start with the ones that have committed crimes since being in the country and aim to get about a million out in the first year.
Seems fair enough to me.
But they've not given any clue about how they'll actually do it, so I remain intrigued.
There will be no deportation of 10+ million illegals, at any time, over the next 5 years imo.

It's well documented that crime rates are significantly lower among undocumented migrants than the native population. Indeed, as we've seen here, many undocumented individuals are likely to be victims of crime, but don't wish to report those crimes because the police shop them to immigration authorities. What a great society.
I believe Obama holds the record for modern presidents in terms of sheer number of people deported, with 2.5 million over his 8 years in office.
Compared with 2 million for 'Dubya' Bush (over 2 terms), 1.5 million for Trumps term and about the same so far for Biden (1 term only)
Biden's is significantly higher if you include the emergency measures used during Covid at the border.
1 million in a year is a big step up though, but considering the Border agency reported over 2 million crossing the southern border last year alone, I'm not sure how much of dent they can realistically make even with mass deportations.
Still think it looks like political posturing to me - sounds better to the voters than actually investing in a longer term, more effective plan at the border itself.

I would say having COVID for half his term in office rampaging across the country likely was a significant factor in those numbers not being way way higher for Trump.
The way to stop the flow is on the border before they enter. Both in cost and efficiency. Until that happens it's a finger in a leaking damn scenario.
