Not to side with Trump here, but it’s really telling how many people accept “waste”, as if we are talking about ordering too many pencils or pints of milk that haven’t been consumed before the sell-by date. The reality is that most of “waste” is deliberate, usually to prop up a political decision (like Medicare / Medicaid or munitions supplies) but it also exists in order to enrich donors or public servants. It really is a fraud on an awful lot of occasions.

It would be a colossal, probably fatal mistake for those who oppose Trump to pretend it doesn’t exist and it isn’t at the scale of hundreds of billions of dollars annually,
Oh, I totally agree with you. I deal with the NHS and formerly the MOD and the waste is off the scale. The figures Trump is talking about in the US (though almost certainly hugely exaggerated) are beyond anything we will see in the UK. The crux of what he is trying to do - eliminate waste, is a no brainer, it is the utterly bizarre and dangerous way he has gone about it that is the concern.

There’s certainly better ways (and less obviously compromised / less openly Nazi ways) of doing it, but dealing with it properly would require rapid action that can resist the tide of well-funded and loud opposition that emerges whenever someone tries to do it.

If they are serious about it and take serious measures, like bringing back the federal arsenals to create munitions and small-arms in house (and thereby control costs) for example, then I think people will probably end up being sickened how much money is involved.

edit: also you are 100% right about the NHS

…is the ‘Gulf of America’ just a US naming convention or is it expected to be used globally?

I suppose it’s a bit pedantic but what will be taught in schools, what will transport vehicles adopt (ships and planes) etc. Will it be down to each country, e.g English Channel or La Manche?

I don't think its pedantic at all, its imperialism and should be ignored by every other nation with any self respect

It's been changed on Google maps in the US but not globally
The rest of the world have no interest in changing it for that utter weapon

Where does this end?

when somebody tells him that a trade deficit isn't the same as a subsidy
He's a muppet

We are going to get months if not years worth of such headlines out of DOGE. A winning strategy.

Listened to a podcast the other day explaining that the politico fees are subscriptions to ‘politico pro ‘ or something like that and common , although excessive here , throughout the political sphere including within the last trump White House.

So obviously there is always waste within government and reducing that can’t be a bad thing by any stretch but most of this seems to be headline chasing pandering to people who get overly excited by what they’re told to think .

If anyone thinks that money will actually be spent on veterans, I've got a memecoin to sell them.

They are not serious about it at all. That's the problem.

They solely want to cut money out of the government to justify cutting taxes.

That's it. It's not rocket science
