People can select what information they want to hear now, whether its accurate or woefully misinformed nonsense. Unfortunately, woefully nonsense is usually a lot more fun and easier to digest, so dumb/lazy people tend to plump for the latter
Yeah, constant, instant and intensified. I guess it's inevitable, we've gone from tabloids and radio, to 24hr news, to the wild west of the internet, social media and all that entails.

A lot of talk about fentanyl but nothing about all the guns that make their way up here. The fentanyl line is utter nonsense and everyone knows it.

This will be painful for both sides of the border but it will absolutely destroy the relationship between Canadians and Americans from our POV. We will take the brunt of these tariffs but people will never look back at the US as friends again if it is as bad as it can be. Your anthem is already being booed in Montreal and Ottawa and it will spread further.

Even the conservative rural friends I have who like to joke about Trump will turn when it hits their pockets and stops being fun and games.
I have a few friends in Canada who like the UK are worried about so many casual voters slipping towards the far right, was curious if trumps egregious actions towards Canada might actually help focus these people to the dangers of populism, or is the cult effect already there?

A man so unbelievably petty and void of compassion that he’s spent the past 4 years plotting revenge against everyone and every system that in any way held him to account.

Democracy, the constitution, human rights, the global economy & hundreds of years of international diplomacy is what he’s willing to set ablaze all so he can have the final word.

Truly the final boss of “OwNiNg tHe LiBs”

As a species, we are being outpaced by technology. We don't have the maturity to handle it, and our policymakers can't keep up with it.

I sometimes do wonder if I would have been susceptible to all of this when I was younger. On one hand, I see young men at the mercy of this onslaught of disinformation and feel pity. On the other hand I think they are weak, directionless simps who deserve our derision. It's hard to reconcile the two feelings

Going off topic, the slightly odd fella i work with keeps saying various things or people are 'socialist' or 'communist'. Including the current UK Labour Govt.

What happened to people? I'm sure folk were more clued up 10, 15, or 20 years ago.
Punch drunk.

Information overload, it's a full time job keeping up with every decision and outcry and battle through the courts and propagandic spin and opposition decree and and and... the wifes had enough, the kids are failing in school, my actual full time job barely puts food on the table, and I'm being taxed heavier than ever before...

I'll vote for anyone that'll cut through this bullspit* and wrap it up in a single simple sentence in my favour. Absolutely anyone.

Social media, classic media, short termism politicos, corners cut, easy fixes, kick the can, take the money and run, make a mess leave it for who's next.

Used to be managed decline, now it's something much more malevolent.

Weirdly, it seems to me that the older generation are struggling the most and tend to get sucked in more (looking at my various feeds). The younger generations seem to have grown up with it and are less likely to end up in some rabbit hole.

Folk on here complaining that tariff's will result in higher US prices are invariably the same ones who endorse higher domestic taxes on UK companies. Weird.

Either higher costs, taxes & tariff's lead to higher prices that ultimately hurt the domestic consumer or they don't.

No doubt some dimwit will try explain to me I'm not being nuanced enough, or taking a variety of factors into account that only a Keynesian economist can explain.

Slogan throwing cos they hear it on the news and online. Basically copying the Trump method. Saying stuff that has some factual merit with some buzz word which is both stupid but a point to which you're figuring out what they actually mean (cos they don't).

Then their reply will be you're a lib sheep trapped in the matrix.
