Not a shock, but the cruelty is sad to watch.
I'm quite enjoying it. Democracy in action. The people get what the people want. This is what they - collectively - voted for.

Of course, it's horrific. But the only way to get rid of these gangsters is to let them put into action all of their promises and hope people who thought they'd be shielded from this nasty vindictiveness suffer enough to finally come to their senses. There will be terrible collateral damage in the meantime, however.

The planet can't afford to sit back and see the largest polluter per person pull out of the Paris agreement. I don't see the far right populist ship being seen through being irreparable damage is done.

Imagine being a blue and supporting the Republicans and their uber tory thatcher on steds policies-hard to wrap your head around, isn’t it?

Outsider looking in but...are they basically pulling the plug on things to "save money" that long term don't have much fiscal impact

But then look to be pumping billions into tech that the Chinese have just done for a fraction of the price?

Ah, I see, so that's where the cheap labour is coming from to replace all the low paid immigrants that harvest crops, and do their gardening.

Eradicate education (schools) for the poor and get em in the fields working for nothing. That'll play well with southern states...

I've not spoken with my son yet and, perhaps, @RAFUH could chime in but I believe this "temporary" stop to federal grants also directly affects most medical residency programs, which could seriously mess up care at loads of hospital systems.

CMS (Medicare and Medicaid) is the major direct funding source for residency programs. So cuts to Medicaid could hurt. Medicare was supposedly spared.
The double whammy: if funding is cut to CMS, in addition to losing the more direct funding, reimbursement for care provided to patients with Medicare/Medicaid will decrease.

Major hospitals may be able to carry on for a bit, but small, rural hospitals will struggle even short term.
FQHCs would be gone if it’s long term.

University based health systems will be massively hurt if they lose research grants. That is what was blowing up my work email today.

The two combined could certainly see me lose my job due to lack of funding.
