In his defense, as the first book of a 50 book series of wildly varying quality it does a poor job of introducing its world and setting. It assumes a pretty high level of knowledge for a story that kicks off the foundational myth of 30 years of pretty deep lore.

It basically starts a very long series assuming you already know how it ends. The first line is an in joke ffs.

Good article that. Nails the point that the whole narrative is basically a dog whistle to get people into the fascism pipeline and to dupe the masses with faux hysteria about things that never happened.

It’s like the way that trans people shouldn’t even be a debate and largely would be left alone, if it weren’t for the right wing constantly stoking up their support against trans people. Which has ended up with a bunch of maidenless little chuds who would usually be saying “them women should be in the kitchen, not playing football” pretending to care about women’s high school football because they let a trans kid play.
