The UK in the EU

With most of you its either one way or the other. Why can't it be a middle ground?! At the moment we are letting too many of the wrong sort of people in. What we need to do is put a stop to that and manage our borders better. Not open the flood gates. Not shut up shop all together.

It really isn't that ****ing hard is it?

Some of you just will not have it.

Thats not entirly true though is it?
And by not spending money here, they are hardly contributing to VAT an essential government tax.

This subject of immigration is not black and white, its not all good its not all bad.

Look, contrary to what the Keynesian morons in government would have us believe, Consumer Spending is not what grows an economy. Production is what grows an economy. If we all doubled our output we could all have twice any many things for the same price.

Therefore it is almost immaterial if the government collects VAT on a consumption, because more consumption per se is not what we want. Increase production and higher consumption will automatically follow.

Think of it in terms of a group of shipwreck survivors on an island. That's an economy right there. All the demand stimulus in the world won't do them any good unless they produce something first. They have to fish, hunt, collect water, build shelter, - ie produce - in order to consume. It's exactly the same principle for an island with 60 million as it is for an island with 6.

What is wrong with people moving into the country other than the national pride stuff? Do they commit more crimes than UK born people? What do they do that's wrong? Everyone in England was an immigrant at some stage.

me and efcnik agree, there is a balance to be found.

Non british citizens coming in and commiting crime and being let in, pisses me off. I would say its almost specific to Eastern European countries. Within the EU anyway. Western europeans coming in- no problems whatsoever. We need to sort it out. That's all I shall say further on the matter.

Fair enough I wasn't popcorning I'm just quite out of touch having lived away from home for so long now.

Shoe on the other foot, I'm extremely grateful NZ allowed me to move here and have a fantastic life, if boundaries were tighter I wouldn't have this opportunity.

I take it you have a proffession? Something which makes you of value to society? If someone wants to come to the uk and has something of value to bring to the table I.e a doctor or a surgeon then absolutely fair play. But the freedom of movement within the EU means that we get the absolute dreggs of society from romania etc coming over and causing nothing but trouble.

I'm sure NZ doesn't have such problems.

I moved here as a teenager so at the time I didn't have any qualifications mate.

NZ certainly has those problems, namely the Pacific Islands and China, the majority of who come over without skills or ability to speak English. They may keep to themselves, but they work hard, and contribute to growing the country.

Some do here aswell. They are needed, I don't doubt that.

But a lot also cause trouble be it trafikking, fraud, violent crime or robbery. I've seen and had experience of some of the afformentioned first hand. On more than one occasion. We have our own scumbags. We shouldn't have to deal with another countries. We need stricter filters, that's all I'm saying.

Stricter filters definitely. We get the same problems here. The problem with anyone though is, apart from criminal records which should automatically deter people from being allowed in, you can't tell a scumbag from a contributer before they enter the country. It's a tricky one, like I say I'm grateful for the chance I got.

I'd have language checks for starters. Can you speak english?

That would weed a lot of them out trust me.

Then I'd have proof of employment. What are you here to do? I'd then call such employers. If they are a student, a simple call to the university would suffice.

Its not even that hard but its quite clearly not happening. And the way the rules are, it doesn't need to happen.

Elong I bet you had to go through all sorts of checks. With our free movement they don't have to.

I'd wager that most immigrants can speak better English than you, mate.
