The UFC and Mixed Martial Arts Thread

I would say Anderson has the advantage with, everywhere standing he dictates, clinch, he'll control distance better, ground strike I would give to Anderson even off his back, Subs as well.

GSP would have to control him on the ground for 5 rounds I would feel which I wouldn't be surprised with as he's an awesome technician and athlete, I just feel Anderson beats him everywhere else.

Simple really I think - if GSP executes his game plan he wins. If not he gets knocked out.

I used to love UFC, gave me goosebumps when it was a title fight with the likes of Chuck Liddell. Was exciting back then. These days unfortunately it has become boring, too many fights going to points decisions. I can't remember the last good UFC event that got my adrenaline going.

The problem is it could never stay the same, it was always going to end up mixed Martial arts. There is only so long a boxer or kick boxer wil be taken down and submitted before they think I need to get better on the floor or at least stuffing the takedown. Because of all the arts involved it was always going to be a progressive sport.

Yeah of course. It's lost something by going that way though. It would have been impossible to run any other way as you'd have a kind of blood sports style competition and invite only any other way.

Even still it was fascinating at the outset.

My top 5.

1) Tito
2) Chuck
3) Matt Hughes
4) Randy
5) Anderson Silva

Edit - best fight??? Ken shamrock fighting thingy Gracie for ages was the first time I'd seen proper submission experts going at it.

Love MMA! Training 3 times a week at my local gym and hoping to get into competition too!!

Just to keep the conversation going whats everyone's opinion of Micheal Bisping? Also what do people make of Alistair Overeem, any still think he can become heavyweight king after his recent loss?

I'm alright Carlos how are you?

What gym's this? He's alright. I quite like him. Bit of a WUM at times but quite funny. Hilarious on TUF with Miller.

Overeem? If he's going to do it he best do it soon, but I think his last loss was just a one off as a result of being over confident.

Just one in Lincoln, only opened recently but they seem really clued up, friendly and, most importantly keen to cater for peoples needs rather than just throwing people in at the deep end. I've got some experience on boxing and kick boxing but initially went down for fitness. Getting into it big time now, started a side course in brazilian ju-jitsu and already got a black belt in karate from my college days which I'm sort of revisiting a bit, loving it!

I think Overeem has all the ability to be dominant, but something tells me he will find ways to screw up. Bisping is very funny I agree, sadly tho his division is too stacked for him to get the belt imo

I like Bisping, he's interesting, his fights are always decent to watch cos you're on edge in case he gets caught.

I can't ever see Overeem doing anything special. JDS will KO him. Bas said it, and the evidence is there, Overeem has a glass chin, he said Golden Glory taught him only to throw one punch at a time so he didn't get caught, always protecting his chin with the other hand. Now he's moved to blackzillians he's moved away from that and is open to the KO. No cardio either.

I think the issue we're currently seeing with MMA is that it's reaching a glass ceiling of sorts in terms of human abilities. Originally it was style versus style, but now it's evolved to MMA and the margins between most of the fighters are small. Add to that there being a massive difference between winning and losing in terms of career progression.

Plus now they're earning much more money the top guys only fight once or twice a year.

I think the calibre of fighter may have reduced the excitement somewhat, back in the day guys like Ortiz, Shamrock et al may not have been as skilled as some of today's fighters but were surely more wild and exciting to watch.

Woulda been all over this thread a coupla years ago, gone off it completely now. I used to be amazing at Kickboxing though.
