He must feel like a fool holding that belt after been knocked out in 13 seconds and not getting a rematch.

It's a joke giving it to him. I know this way it's headed for an Aldo- Holloway/Petis showdown, that Aldo will no doubt pull out of first time round, but I'd have rather they make the winner of that fight the Champion and have the belt vacant til then.

See Khabib is mouthing off wanting an I term title at LW as well. Cos Conor might not fight til May. I thought it had to be 12 months with no defence before an Interim was established?

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. I can understand he'd be upset after the initial fight but an accident? lol He made the mistake Conor said he would. I think Holloway and Pettis both beat him as well.

Aldo needs to finish a few fights first and then start calling out the man who knocked him cold in 13 seconds.

Jose Aldo, the man who lost his UFC featherweight title when he was knocked out by Conor McGregor inside 13 seconds, wants another shot at the Irishman – because he lost his crown “by accident”.

The 30-year-old Brazilian said of McGregor: “It’s not my fault that he’s a coward. He was never the champion.”

McGregor announced over the weekend that he was vacating the featherweight title he won by beating Aldo in December, ending his spell as a two-division champion. McGregor never defended the belt, which means Aldo reclaims the title – but Aldo said he wouldn’t be satisfied without a rematch.

The Brazilian said: “I knew for certain that this would happen [McGregor giving up his belt]. In my opinion, I never stopped being the champion. I lost that fight because of an accident.”

Aldo, speaking in Portuguese, told UFC: “I knew that I would win a rematch and would become champion again. It’s not my fault that he’s a coward. He was never the champion. I don’t see myself losing to anyone in my weight class or any other one.”

McGregor remains the lightweight title holder. But Aldo said he is happy to move up to the 155lb class for a rematch with the Irish star.

“It’s logical that I give a lot of thought to that rematch, and it’s a certainty that it will happen,” he said. “But I want to defend my [featherweight] belt first. Then I can start preparing to face McGregor [at lightweight].”

Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar for the interim featherweight title at UFC 200 in July. Before he can get a rematch with McGregor, he will most likely fight Max Holloway or Anthony Pettis to unify the featherweight championship.

Holloway and Pettis square off at UFC 206 in Toronto on 10 December.

Hmm....not sure where to put this, here or in the boxing thread.....or even the Conor McGregor thread!

Anyhoo, he has been granted a license to box in California!

http://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/18176293/conor-mcgregor-ufc-issued-boxing-license-california

UFC star Conor McGregor has obtained a license to professionally box in the state of California.

McGregor's agent Audie Attar informed ESPN.com of the development on Wednesday. California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster also confirmed the licensure.

The Irish fighter is still under contract with the UFC, which creates a wrinkle in any boxing match he might pursue. However, the news will only add to speculation of a boxing match between McGregor and retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor has already expressed interest in that fight and even demanded $100 million for it. According to Foster, the CSAC is committed to approving "appropriately matched-up opponents."

In addition, Mayweather has a home in downtown Los Angeles near the Staples Center.

But Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, shot down the prospect of a McGregor-Mayweather bout when reached Wednesday night by ESPN's Dan Rafael.

"It's all a game. It's all a calculated effort to gain more fans," Ellerbe told ESPN in an extensive phone interview. "He got a boxing license. Congratulations to him. Conor McGregor can say anything he wants to but he has a boss and his name is (UFC president) Dana White. He is under contract to the UFC and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match he can't because his bosses wouldn't allow that to happen.

"The brass (from WME-IMG) who recently purchased the UFC (for $4 billion earlier this year) are very smart people and they would never -- and put this in bold caps -- let him step into a boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather because everyone knows what the outcome would be," Ellerbe added. "He would get his ass beat from pillar to post."

McGregor (21-3) holds the UFC's lightweight belt and sits at the top of the sport. He made history at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 by becoming the first to ever hold two UFC titles at the same time.

The Dublin native was the featherweight champion when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205. Last weekend, the UFC announced McGregor had relinquished the 145-pound featherweight title to focus on the lightweight division.

McGregor, however, has not publicly commented on vacating the belt; before UFC 205, he said it would take "an army" to separate him from one of his titles.

After defeating Alvarez, McGregor revealed he is expecting the birth of his first child in early 2017. UFC president Dana White has since stated that McGregor won't fight until May.

During the UFC 205 postfight news conference, McGregor also stated he expected a meeting with the UFC's new ownership, WME-IMG. The entertainment agency purchased the UFC earlier this year for $4 billion and has sold minority shares to some of its Hollywood clients.

"No one has come talked to me since the sale, as a businessman," McGregor said. "Who owns the company now? There's people who have shares in the company, celebrities -- Conan O'Brien owns the UFC these days. Where's my share?

"They've got to come talk to me now, that's all I know. Both belts, chunk of money, little family on the way -- you want me to stick around and keep doing what I'm doing? Let's talk. I want ownership now. I want the equal share. I want what I deserve, what I've earned."

In addition to boxing, McGregor might have a potentially lucrative opportunity in professional wrestling. WWE executive vice president of talent Triple H told the Daily Telegraph this month, "Conor could do [WWE], for sure."

Attar addressed that possibility on ESPN's 5ive Rounds podcast last week.

"If [WWE] is going to come with an offer, we will entertain it," Attar said. "We are here."

Anyone watch Jon Jones on JRE?

He seems so false to me, like it's this huge web full of bollocks he's concocted in his head.

Of course.

The bit where Rogan asked him how he felt after hitting the pregnant woman in his car and he said "scared in case she lost the baby because then I'd be looking at even longer in jail", to paraphrase, stuck out for me. Slipped up and deviated from his act there, should have gone with the old "terrible, I was just concerned for the safety of the woman and her baby" instead of "me, me, me".

I'd love Cormier to beat him. DC actually seems like a nice guy yet is seen by many as the baddie for some bizarre reason.

Picked up on that too. It's like he also realises what he's just said and so he throws in the "oh and obviously I was concerned about her safety too" or something at the end.

I still don't see DC beating him though. I don't see Rumble beating him either. There's literally nobody else in that division who could come close apart from them 2.

LHW needs to get its act together because it is surely the least stacked of the weight classes. Rumble has KOd basically everyone below him.

No I can't see it either, always a chance of Johnson knocking him out though.

Aye, heavyweight isn't great either but long gone are the days of Griffin, Rampage, Shogun, Rashad, Liddell etc. and there's nobody coming through by the looks of things.

100%. The higher weight divisions are dying off compared to what they were like 6, 8, maybe even 10 years ago or more.

I mean ffs Shogun is still no.7 in the LHW division. He's lost to Chael, Gustafsson, OSP, Jon Jones, Hendo twice and he's STILL 7th. There's basically no competition in the entire division nowadays.

PS - I hope you realise BJ is getting his head took off by Yair soon. My main man is gonna rise through those featherweight rankings hopefully!

Good fights today. Dj just doesnt get beat was good to see some1 take it to him, even if it was just for 1 round. Also never seen a end to a fight like ellenbergers. Tko'd after getting foot stuck in the cage.
