I don't see how the MLS would land Cahill without paying a fee, seeing as there are known to be other interested clubs who would almost certainly be willing to pay one.

I suppose the only other possibility would be for it to act as a sweetener for Donovan coming here full time.

It was a big deal in the States a few months ago when Landon came out and said he was not motivated. I took that as he wanted a new challenge. Then he scored 2 goals in a USA friendly and has looked great ever since.

MLS has received a number of players on a free due to teams looking to get rid of salary. Look at both Henry & Marquez who were under contract with Barcelona. Barca could have received a lot more from each than Cahill, but somehow let them go to Red Bulls for nothing. Who knows.

Barcelona can afford to let players go on a free though mate, we can't.
