I think 2-3 players of real quality will do the trick.

Agree with that. In a perfect world we would sign 7-8 to both improve the quality an to bulk up te squad. As we clearly don't have the money for that just get 3 quality players in. That way we'll force ourselves to look at our youth/younger players a lot more and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Nobody in their right mind would call either of those real quality, they are borderline tosh/decent.

I don't really mind to be honest as long as they're players of good technical quality regardless of position. What we're looking for is someone like Yak, who's just as happy dropping deep and arcing a crossfield ball to the fullback as he is careering through defences on his own and smashing home a hat trick every game.
