The striker debacle

Who are we getting in as Lukaku's replacement?

I'm not usually one to moan about transfer windows, but I am perplexed at this situation. We are severely limited going forward and are in desperate need of a senior striker. It appears we've got ourselves in to a bit of a pickle.
You're not the only one mate. We have known since March (when lukaku turned down the contract offer) that we needed a top striker as his replacement. Your guess is as good as mine, as to why we are only 2 days from the window closing and no like for like replacement having been brought in.

It is, to put it mildly, worrying.

Currently, the striker cupboard looks a tad under cooked. Like, we were never gonna get a ready made, 25 goal scorer, so I think we all accept that a blend perhaps was the better option. But so far, well, not great in my view.

Maybe like for like replacement was the wrong term. But you get my drift, we were never going to get a lukaku replacement with regard to the number of goals he scored. But at the very least, you'd expect a proven premier league striker, with a physical presence as a replacement. Giroud would have been perfect, but he turned us down weeks ago alledgedly, so why has there been no plan B.

I dont know.

Would we still be fuming if Sandro had no clause and cost £30mil?

Personally, as of yet, I'm not fuming because the window isn't over.

But, given Sandro is unlikely to be able to lead the line in the Premier League, I would still be bloody annoyed if we exited this window without someone capable of doing that job, regardless of how much we spent on Sandro. To be honest mate, if Sandro had been going to cost us 30 million, I doubt we'd have bought him, because it would have left less money for the "lead the line" type of guy.

To be honest, I'm not nearly as fussed by this as I am by the fact that we are a Keane injury/straight red/.... away from having Jags and Williams as our 2 CB's. Picture this when Europa leagues on....

Unless a rabbit is pulled out the hat in the next 48 hours, this will be the most farcical decision ever made by the Everton board IMO.

Yes, we know Lukaku wanted away but he still had two years of a contract still to run.

And an unhappy Lukaku would be way preferable to the situation as it sits right now.

We should never have allowed ourselves to be browbeaten into selling him and leaving ourselves threadbare.

Just to echo what others have posted....it is beyond belief he was allowed to leave six weeks ago without a replacement already lined up or one being signed in the intervening period.
