The Spurs situation and Everton

Nah mate Villa a few years ago.
I don't recall thinking their team at the time was too good to go down, though. A big name club, yes, but a shocking team at that time. West Ham had some legitimate future stars in that relegated team. This Spurs team should be very far from relegation on paper, so it would be a massive - albeit funny - shock if they dropped.

Still don’t get what all the fuss is with Spuds being at risk.
Both Leicester and Blackburn are EPL winners who have been relegated, what’s the big deal with Tottenham?
Just London centric reporters biased towards a London club wanting dramatic headlines imo.
There is a very small group of PL ever presents, of which they are one. More than anything, it would just feel weird not having them in the league, but also I think this squad firmly belongs in "too good to go down" territory.

Two CBs who would walk into most PL teams on their day but look like Laurel and Hardy this year for some reason, youngsters like Gray and Bergvall that would defo be in most non-Big Six squads, some ridiculous (on paper) forward options, etc. The massive overreliance on Kane was evidently real, and they can't seem to make it work even with a theoretically very competent squad.

Villa were utterly abject the season they went down, and their fans recognised that. The club even scrapped their 'Player of the Year' award because there was nobody worthy.

I remember we beat Villa 4 - 0 at Goodison that season and we weren't great on the day but still miles better than them.
We got Gana from that side. He was nothing to remember when we played them, but they were utterly woeful.

Much worse than this Spurs side

Their squad up and down is easily top half. That's the difference. They are literally in the champions league Round of 16 and are 1 point above the relegation zone.

They are utter headcases though and it's funny to watch.

I get where you’re coming from, but they also finished 17th (iirc) with less than 40points last season.

That season they played their own u21 side as a mid-season confidence booster.

And lost 3-0.

Mad isn’t it? There again, look at United and what a difference a belated (and seemingly obvious to everyone but Amorim) formation change made. Frank seemed to me be to be nailed on to take whatever common sense approach was required to straighten them up but it didn’t work out that way.

Tudor has been a disaster so far. They seem stuck in a bit of an Evertonian cycle of nightmare managers that has put them in real danger.

I think it has to be viewed in the context of the last 15 years. Whilst bigger clubs like Villa have gone down, Tottenham are one of the richest clubs in the world now, have a modern state of the art stadium. They have somehow become a 'top 6' side and tried to force the superleague (despite not winning a league title in 50+ years and only having won 2 in their history). The sense of entitlement and arrogance their fans possess have made them very unlikeable so a lot of people are willing them to go down. Personally I would very much enjoy it if they went. I still think they'll be OK though.
