The Spurs situation and Everton

My thoughts on the Spurs situation & Everton

To be honest it's almost insulting comparing the two. Our squad wasn't great, wasn't full of superstars yet our players dug in and grinded out results. A team effort but Pickford has to take a lot of credit we're still a PL club. Spurs' squad has depth we could have only dreamed of but they're playing they've got no direction. Seeing these big six A-listers get humbled every week by teams they theoretically should be smashing to pieces is pretty fun to watch.

As far as the coach welcomes, 1878s' banners etc. stuff like that is easy for us to do, because we're mainly scouse/northern and we've got a history, trophies, heroes, songs and chants that can last for hours. The Winslow and the Brick do so much for the fanbase with coach travel etc, not just pubs. The Everton way has always been to not let the tough times ruin the love of the club. It's a mindset and a culture you can't make overnight. Others have tried to copy it and failed. Liverpool tried to copy the coach welcomes and it was embarrassing.

I hope Spurs go down as the players deserve it - and the fans may learn a thing or two in the Championship about what a passionate fanbase looks like when you're not spoilt with world class players and European football.

It’s easy when you have an agenda like he does mate. What he wants is it to be plastered with paint and banners and flags all over . And then when it’s finished he’ll complain that it looks tacky and tasteless. Round and round we go.
True mate I agree. I've heard similar from other people about the ground though, I think a lot of the subtle details with the tower angles and shades of blue & Goodison references have gone unnoticed, it would be nice to see the club make more noise about stuff like that.

As the great Dusty Rhodes once said Spurs don’t know what hard times are

it would be the biggest relegation since Aston Villa. I can’t see it happening though, gut feeling is one of the other teams will come up short and Spurs survive by a couple of points.
Why would Aston Villa be a big/shock relegation? They've been down a few times and were in the third division not all that long ago. That's level 1 for those who don't know.

1972 is quite long ago to me.

But, which relegation after Aston Villa went down was a bigger shock then?

Sorry but this is stupid. Virtually every diagonal line within the architecture, framework and designs in the ground is to the diagonal angles of the Everton tower icon. The shade of blue across the ground is consistently the same Mersey Blue shade the club has used the last five or so years, as are all the fonts. The 1920 badge is there aswell, there's murals of fans. There's the names of fans across the paving stones. What more do you actually want from the people who designed it, royal blue grass?

I've stated what exactly may times. If you're too lazy to search for it...

I’m talking in terms of club size not shock value. Aston Villa going down in 2016 wasnt a shock , they were horrendous.

One thing I will give Spurs credit for, they actually put in relegation pay clauses for all their player transfers. For some absurd reason, we never did. We would have been insolvent if we went down.

That will be down to Levy, cant stand the bloke but he's a good businessman..

They probably wish they had him back now..

I'm surprised they're not starting Richi every game currently (if his fitness can hold up).

BBC text has it right. People might give him stick for what he can't do but he will fight given he went through the trauma of 21/22 which is exactly the season Spurs are having now.

He scored v Fulham and then they left him on the bench for Palace which I couldn't understand at all.

Was thinking about this myself and i put it down to players signing for CL clubs, don’t see the clause as of particular relevance as it would have seemed so unlikely. If we tried to sign players in our position over the last 5-6 years where we’ve been spoken about as candidates for the drop, no one would come to us and agree to them imo - least not for the a reasonable salary.

That said it think it could be a double edged sword for them in the unlikely (but hopeful) case they are relegated. If most of their squad abandon ship due to the pay cut, that’s some massive upheaval to contend with in the Championship.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the wage cut clause didn't work hand in hand with some sort of release clause too, ie players can go for their amortised values for example, otherwise they are extremely one sided.

If Football Manager has taught me anything is no agent will agree with a relegation wage reduction clause without a relegation release clause. Fn agents in that crappy game....
