Looking forward just gets your head scrambled. Just 2 - 3 weeks ago, before the north London derby, I was praying for Arsenal to beat Spurs because at that time top 4 looked out of the question and we needed to focus on topping Spurs. Now, I'm thinking what a pity Spurs didn't get something out of that game.

The moral there is don't worry about what others are doing. If you do well enough, they are irrelevant. Push on, blues!

Yep.

Going into games literally knowing they cannot afford to drop points would play on their nerves big time. It's all well and good, with eight or nine games to go, saying games are "must win", but when they literally are "must win" it becomes a whole different matter.

Weren't we all saying back in like January that certain games were "must win"? Look at us now. When push comes to shove and you will fail if you do not take maximum points, nerves become a major issue for a lot of players!

I actually just realised that they play West Ham tomorrow night, and that's even better! They'll be shattered after Saturday and are still carrying a few injuries. West ham probably need at least another point to make sure of safety, so Allardyce will up for it.

That's so true though, all we can do is keep putting pressure on Arsenal to win games, and hopefully they capitulate. We have also been the 2nd best team in the league for the last couple of months regarding form, and even though we lost to Chelsea and Spurs before that, I don't think we deserved any less than a point. I'm not saying we will win our five remaining games, but we are more than capable of doing so.

each game is a cup final and we have to take each game as it comes.

but ..... the funny thing is that in the race for 4th we are also in the race for 3rd.
if city lose a game before we play them , and we beat palace and utd , we still might need 3 points from them to keep 4th , which would put us 1 point behind 3rd.

City are reeling.

Their last home game against Saints, they were battered in the first half before two goals against the run of play very late in the first half glossed over the cracks.

That form was carried over into that woeful firs half at Mordor yesterday.

Third place is very much on now, IMO and I think the title is between the RS and Jose.

So we are sitting in 4TH and with Man City getting turned over by Liverpool this afternoon I wonder if the chase for 3RD could be on.
I know everyone is looking over their shoulders at Arsenal but should we be looking to overtake Man City?
Yes they have a game in hand but apart from us they could all be teams fighting at the bottom of the league.
Having seen them chuck points away today who says that it could be the last time before the season comes to an end.
The chase for 3RD is on!!!

Was thinking the same thing. All it will take is a wobble from City, especially their other road game, and of course we'd need to beat them...but why not?

I mean this will all due respect to the "realists" on here, but tell me exactly how it hurts to be optimistic and happy and forward thinking rather than dour and defeatist and waiting for something bad to happen? I just don't get it.

Talking about stuff with 5 games to go in the season this does not make us kopite-like, like.

Win out, and put pressure on everyone around us. Make them fear us.

On one hand, it seems very unlikely that we can achieve 3rd, considering how tight it will be just to hold onto 4th. But if the general consensus is that we need to aim for maximum or near maximum points anyway, then a points total of 79-81 is not gonna be too far off 3rd.

We just need to keep winning, and we'll end up where we deserve to be. I would bite your hand of for 4th now if offered, as I'm sure we all would.

Just think, if we won at anfield we would be 2pts behind them (if we win game hand).

Small margins.

Beat palace and west ham win, then this thread will gather pace

Every team can do the what if scenario mate, ultimately the only games that really grate are ones you get robbed by the ref in, this year we've not had many of those happen thank god - Maybe spurs away being the biggest.

Could equally go on about games we won and didn't play to well, in the end refs aside you get what you deserve mostly

No sure you always get what you deserve, haven't got our 12 penalties quota yet.
