I'm your age (more or less) and a US blue from about 2007 or so. Carry on. Enjoying this.

Wish I had something to contribute, but don't. Remember the times, but not the footie.

edit: question - anybody around old enough to remember an FA cup game between Everton and ManU on Valentine's Day 1953 - the day of my birth? The blues won before a jampacked Goodison, according to the game records.
My late Father was there it was the famous Cannon ball kids iconic Dave Hicksons performance played on with a bad split over his eye blood everywhere the referee ordered him off no subs in those days - The Referee thought he was mad as his deep cut was dangerous- scored a cracking winner we were a division 2 team taking on the mighty Man United in front of 77,920 fans we won 2-1 after going a goal down -Tommy Eglington scored the first - Hickson He went on with a bandaged head with blood oozing out headed against the post before scoring a thumping winner - My late father stated to me he would have run through a brick wall for Everton FC - he was disgusted when we sold him to Villa, and went with thousands of blues when he signed for the other lot, on his debut he scored 2 for them!

I remember the good times and bad times since 1948, relegation was hard to take for a ten year old boy.

I remember the sheer magic of going into the boys pen for the first time, just loved looking at an almost empty Goodison
Park and thought I was in wonderland, brilliant, then watch it slowly fill up, the crescendo of noise as the team's appeared,
never ever forgot that feeling, getting promotion at the same time as Liverpool were getting relegated, them staying down
for EIGHT years, just loved that.

Then loads of barren years until Kendall constructed his marvellous team, but also remember Kendalls opening spell when
he drove thousands away from Everton, gates down to 15-16 thousands.

The last time we won the cup under Joe Royle, great day singing " always lol on the bright side of life" to the Mancs
great days with hopefully a few more before I go to the Royal Blue heaven or maybe the Red Hell!!

Erm, barren years, what about Harry Cattericks' two champion teams. Ffs I know the media always forget him but surely not our own. I reckon you were on drugs........

Is that you Victor "I don't believe it"lol

I don't qualify for this thread, growing up on Terry Darracott and getting beat in League cup replays, but my Dad used to tell me of following Everton in Division 2 in the early 50's and the last game of the season match away at Oldham. Everton needed a big win to go up as champions only to just fall short and finish second to Leicester on GD. (Just looked it up and saw that we won that match 4-0) He went there on the back of his mates motorbike- no helmets in those days- just go!
Anyone on here go to that match? Would love to hear more from this era
Also when we won the cup 1966 (I was still a distant twinkle in the eye) he was at Wembley and my mother stayed at home and had to turn the radio off at 2-0 down. He went with a load of blokes from work and some fella threw his wig in the air when the third goal went in and that was that gone. Also getting beat as big favourites against West Brom a couple of season later. I watched the Golden Vision documentary and I just think it must have been just like that. Just a great laugh.

He's gone now- bless him- He always said the 1970 Championship side was the best we ever had.

Bah......the 50 sommats are, by definition, glory hunters as their heyday was the mid to late '80s

Ditto the over 70s with their Golden Vision and Holy Trinity in the Swinging Sixties.

But all usuns in our 60s?

We paid our dues in the 1970s.....:p

Like these young lads today, we had bugger all to cheer about for yonks.

Not for us Trebilcock, Sharp and Rideout.......for us it was Bernie the Bolt, Geoff Nulty, Pistone and Alexandersson

So quit yer bitchin' there Dario :p

:pint2:
not im my 60s but no matter how young I was in 84 the wait still seemed endless. in fact the few weeks after the Glen Keeley derby felt like about 20 years.

I loved Harry catterick and he gave us great service and three trophies in the sixties finishing with a title in 1970, we next won the FA cup in 1984 with nothing in between, I make that fourteen years without winning anything, pretty barren
wouldn't you say, the only drugs I was on we're pints of bitter and EvertonFC.

Suppose i best put myself in this creche..
Been thinking of the stand out matches from those very early days.
I made my debut against Inter Milan stood in the Park End and was dumbstruck with the size of Goodison Park and the atmosphere that night.
Chosen there and then!
Was only ever able to read about Everton from the Football Echo.
That Toffee lady always seemed to be cheering over and above the rs ...
There were many more stand out games that i will hopefully be able to relate to all you Blues....
Pickering debut against Notts Forest.. Hat trick for Fred.. 6-1 win
Beating the RS at Analfield stood on the Kop 4 .... i said FOUR NIL....

My old fella went to Oldham, they put tar on the walls to prevent the Evertonians getting in,my old man got covered in it,but didn't care,we won 4-0 and went up:)PS nothing wrong in growing up on Terry Darracott mate;)lol

I think we needed to win by 5 to be champs. My late dad went to both matches and never saw a game!! Original game called off or postponed because of fog and he was locked out of the second!! He spoke about everton fans putting newspapers on the tar so they could climb in!!!

my late father went to the Oldham game away most blues fans got in for nothing as they closed the gates, they even poured tar onto the walls to stop them climbing in - typical scousers bought late edition newspapers, and stuck the to the tar so they would not get dirty it was Oldhams biggest records attendance as fans spilled over the touch line - The blues had to win 6-0 to win the title outright - halftime we were 4 - 0 up it was on, but we never excelled in the 2nd half - the match petered out but most importantly the blues were back in the old Division one.
The 1950's teams were mainly of Irish players with a good team ethic ,and of course the Cannonball Kid, but they were inconsistent, badly managed, and a lack of transfer activity of quality players in the very late 1950's all that was to change when Bobby Collins was signed by Carey the new manager, and the Golden vision in the early 1960's, and John Moores entered the picture - our fortunes picked up, and the rest was a successful 1960's!

Sounds familiar

Yes so true they hardly signed anyone other than journeyman players of which some came good, not brilliant hence our relegation, John Carey famously sacked in a taxi fetched in Roy Vernon, Alex Young, Bobby Collins who was a midfield general, introduced Brian Labone, Derek Temple, played some great School of Science football yet was deemed to nice of a man Manager as results became inconsistent as our away form was very poor he was sacked by the ruthless John Moores famously in a taxi on his way to a FA meeting, when it was rumoured the Catt was being lined up - Catts 1963 team had many of Careys players in it! - his last match after being sacked Everton beat Cardiff 5-0 at home!
The Catt was a total opposite to Carey the Catt liked only by some players as he was a total disciplinarian always feeling John Moores was breathing down his neck for success!

First of all sincere apologies for omitting the Catterick years, I'd stopped to answer the phone and had to go out quick
so finished my text in a hurry without checking the full article, so sorry for that especially to Harry Catterick and his great teams.

Good articles from all the old timers , Joey you were right about the club being badly run in the 50's, the team that went
down was the same set of players that won promotion three years later, not one single player had been bought in the three years we were in the second division. Joey I know you keep records, check the Cardiff City score If I'm right I think it was
8-3 but I only go from memory.
