First of all sincere apologies for omitting the Catterick years, I'd stopped to answer the phone and had to go out quick
so finished my text in a hurry without checking the full article, so sorry for that especially to Harry Catterick and his great teams.

Good articles from all the old timers , Joey you were right about the club being badly run in the 50's, the team that went
down was the same set of players that won promotion three years later, not one single player had been bought in the three years we were in the second division. Joey I know you keep records, check the Cardiff City score If I'm right I think it was
8-3 but I only go from memory.
No problem I even got my age wrong forgot how old I was for my first game away it made me only 57! Its hard as you get older and them ipad thingies its murder trying to post on here with the one my sons got!
Old age is creeping on even my wife calls me Victor sometimes!

Checked my records we beat Cardiff 5-1 15th of April 1961 attendance of 34, 382 with Alex Young getting a brace, at Full time CAPT Bobby Collins got on a microphone to say some nice things about Carey - some of the fans waited outside to shake his hand as the thought the sacking was premature as the football was top class - Alex Young later stated if he had have been fit when signed he feels he may have saved his job as he loved Carey's style of management. He was sacked with three games left he was told to manage the team v Cardiff as HC was not ready to take his appointment up we finished 5th that season HC first two games were wins to end the season. Alex young and other players were certainly no lover of the new Mr Catterick!

Dave, the 8-3 against Cardiff was the last game at Goodison season 1961-62
Vernon 3 and one each for
Bingham,Gabriel,Stevens, Temple and Young.

That's true Joey, I loved catterick, to me he was the best manager Everton have ever had, I agree he was very strict and
after being under Johnny Carey he most probably was harder to take to. I've always thought that Alex Young would never have been signed by Catterick, Alex just wasn't Harry's cup of tea, just my opinion.

Yes that's true imo also -Young was a flair player on his day World Class - he glided around bruising defenders like they were not there on other occasions it was hard to notice if he had played - plagued with blistered feet - I agree he would never have been signed by the Catt - I was just glad to get the chance to see him as on his day , and the adoration from the blues fans was amazing the banners in the Glawdys street end all about him yet Roy Vernon, and Fred Pickering were better scorers?
It was his style he caressed the ball, only small he could hang in the air and out jump taller centre half's he just lacked consistency, maybe due to his injury woes he states this in the documentary The Golden Vision - He was so special they reckon Alan Ball chose to come to us over Leeds because of Alex Young s sheer footballing ability - I seen him play with Bally he wore the no 7 shirt, it was fantastic to see the pair of them rip teams apart.
The Catterick years were the best footballing side I have ever seen the Ball -Harvey - Kendall midfield was the most delightful trio to see fans forget the Catt had big signings, but he gave youth a big chance in that era that cost us virtually nothing!
Something I would like RM to try out a bit more imo!

Does anyone remember what the Morrissey flying down the wing song went like that was about the 4-0 win at Anfield?
I don't remember the song , but that 4-0 win at Anfield in 1964 was a shock result to say the least and we did the double over them that season! how often can we brag that????
The team that won 4-0 was plagued by injuries - two full backs out with injury Brian Harris , and sandy Brown filling in the void - the Goal scorers that day were Harvey - Morrissey with a belting shot into the Kop end -Pickering , and Temple, even West our Keeper was out as Andy Rankin stood in for him we hammered them with a weaken team.
I also wonder what a big hero Morrissey was yet never come back or interviews anyone about out club he was a great winger, and a pleasure to watch!
Has he fell out with our club???

I remember the game but not any song. I was in the Anfield Road End for that game, what a cracker. In my mind I can still see the Pickering goal and Morrisey flying down the wing.
