The prevalence of drugs in cycling tour de France wise was I think was recovery based , namely because of the stage a day. If you look now the energy the cyclists exert after a day on the tour its I think half what it was 10-15 years ago. I think it's probably unfair to point the finger inside the velodrome where they've tried to peak for the Olympics with Pendleton sacrificing her Worlds' performance for the games and where technology , training, strategy and technique does make a difference, being honest though I don't know.
Nonsense. How does that work specifically?
Cycling dominance (individual and collectively) goes hand in hand with dope. No question in my mind. I'm not even arsed about it, tbh. I dont care that some use *cough medicine* and *beta blockers* etc and use as yet undetected chemicals. I enjoy the spectacle. They should shovel some more down them!
Bottom line is it's very naive to think this is all on the level. No chance, imo. I know Bruce knows his cycling stuff and I bet you his heart is in his mouth about all this cycling success in the TdF and Olympics waiting for the story to break.
It's quite obvious, multiple competitors in some events would allow blocking on the track, which would not be illegal but would make single cyclists struggle to pass into their rightful position. If one British cyclist knew they were not fast enough to beat their team mate they could make the protection of the gold medal a priority. Take the Keirin as an example where that could occur.
EPO and other 'blood boosters' are used not for recovery but to carry more oxygen around the body to fuel the muscles and overcome fatigue (lactic). That is why so many illegal transfusions happen on the tour. It is why blood passports and out of season testing was introduced.Cycling has been the worst tainted sport regarding doping due to the amount of cheats caught, but with that fact there is the fact that screening is omnipresent, the tech is above cutting edge, and I know of no other sport where so many participants are tested so often to such a high degree. And then have samples kept for retest 5, 10 and 15 years down the road.
The Cycling success at this Olympics has been built on steady progress, sacrifice, strategy and technology. If each of those things contribute 0.25% then in a field where margins have been thousands of a second surely that buys a little goodwill?
i suppose, but people from other countries can do that as well, box them in, it's part of the skill not to be camped in and to get yourself out of it. i was thinking more of the sprints where hoy could have competed for golds with the younger britons, would have been a great spectacle IMO
Rather than recovery like taking protein what I actually meant was in tacking fatigue I just explained it a lot worse than you did , so thanks
London 2012 velodrome statistics:

No worries mate, add to the negative reputation in the bottom left corner please.
Altitude training is used across all sports to build fitness and endurance, there was a big fiasco at the Beijing swimming as deeper pools meant less waves and so more world records. As well as smart swimming suits cutting drag by 2%. Swimmers shave their legs to cut drag (if they dont have speedo patented anti drag suits on).
Wiggins was a velodrome cyclist, he went away and lost 6kg (citation needed) and made himself a road racer. The tour of 2011 he broke his collar bone. He was 30 years old. Advanced helmets and cycling suits for the TT's. Beyond cutting edge nutrition. Oxygen tents. Amassing the best team because of financial brutality.
