Dont have a great knowledge of the womens game if im honest, but from what I'm told thats the general concensus yeah

I didnt realise the stats on the Beijing medal winners was as you have pointed out, I innocently believed only a few of the sports were tainted with the 'old Etonian' syndrome that is so utterly despised throughout 95% of the country. Obviously the horses and the fencing and the shootist disciplines. But more than 50% of 47 medals from Beijing from independent schooling.
Bit gutted, I wonder what the breakdown is so far for London 2012.

wasnt that the first olympics in years we overtook you though, much of it down to cycling, australia do still go strong at the cycling, just GB peak better at the olympics it would seem, what would you say is the reason Nails, just a lull in talent between generations?

Im not Nails, but my reading of the Aussie medal haul is primarily due to the classic Aussie banker events has been eroded, specifically in the pool. The USA has always been strong in the pool but the continued push by the Chinese has been nothing short of revolutionary. It is cyclical anyway, GB athletics has been in lulls before and we are living through an iconic purple patch - will there be replacements for talismans like Hoy and Wiggins and Ennis?
Maybe Aus needs to open more public funded schools and drag athletes out of those Tory havens.
