When I went in our local sweet shop there was collection box for the blind on the counter. I could never work out why the blind man in the black and white picture on the box was holding a peeled banana.
Turns out it was the handle of his white walking stick and a pair of leather gloves.

I know. Every Wednesday we had salad with grated carrots which I hated. My Mom would come and pick me up at 3.15 and I would still be in dining room with my plate of carrots. She made sure every Wednesday I would have some tissues up my sleeve so I could hide the carrots in them and let them out over in the bushes by the school playground
I was given onion soup at my infants my house was only over the road - I stayed once as my parents were going to town for the day - it was like dish water as a starter to the main school dinner- pudding etc- In was forced to eat it & threw up sick - then clouted over the head for not finishing the soup offerd no more food- I went home crying around 2 pm when I saw my parents were back home-I know. My father a coal miner was funing - grabbed my hand & went to the Headmistress office got my dinner money back & demanded to see the dinner lady who hit me - scared the crap out of them !
Never ever stayed at that church infants for school ever again - no problems staying for school dinners at my Junior school! Which was not a church school- hated churches ever since !

Remember this shop. Everything stacked up on pallets and no prices on if I remember correctly. Never saw an Assistant over 30 as they had to memorise all the prices in their head
