Genuinely was.
You’d go to Leasowe Baths and that was fine to jump into, when there wasn’t a turd at the bottom like.
But standing next to the pool in Guinea Gap, with that concrete type of edge.. I can feel the fear even now !

Occasionally we'd nip up there of a dinner hour for a quick dip in the waters. Is it still in operation?

Haven’t lived in Seacombe for 20 years mate.

Guinea Gap baths in Seacombe.

Had salt water in when I used to go there.

That was an eye stinger.

Learnt to swim there.

Swimming teacher never went into the water, just gave us a small polystyrene type of board to hold onto and kicked us into the water. You learnt to swim fast I will give him that.

Went to see the dolphins there in the early 70's

The sites where these poor folk used to congregate are now all built over.

I think that's why this is all so visible on streets and shopping centres now.

Meths has been replaced by 'Frosty Jack', but the 'problem' has never gone away.

Walton baths definitely had them.
They also had an overspill pool and a great hot chocolate machine.

And Garston, as well as the Brylcreme machine...and a chippy 2 doors down
