Arteta was becoming stale ont he wing, he was a shadow of his former self, not once did he go missing in the middle, maybe some games he didnt stamp his name all over the game, but he never went missing, he was there every single game putting his foot in.

Just cos he doesnt score it doesnt mean hes had a bad game.

Pienaar started the season very badly, but he did start to shine when Arteta was injured, but forget Pienaar, he wont be an Everton player after the World Cup.

He's probably not a Fabregas player, Fabregas is more offensive and plays in a more advanced position. A better example would have been a Paul Scholes or a Xabi Alonso - a deep lying playmaker.

His role is completely different to Pienaar, he spends the majority of the game in and around the centre circle and infront of his back four. Naturally, like alot of deep lying play makers, he's not going to clock up alot of goals or assists.

They are there to offer an out ball, they knit things together, start attacks and get attacking players into more advanced positions. Arteta provides creativity in a different area of the pitch, he's the dictator, Pienaar's the wing wizard.

He isn't this fancy dan attacking midfielder people make him out to be, his ability to adapt and play an attacking role over the years just shows how good a player he is. He started off as a holding/deep lying midfielder at Barca and finally, after years of wasting him outwide, Moyes has moved him back to his natural position.

I'm just trying to educate you my man, take it or leave it.

Don't need to educate me mate, ffs - how patronising are you?

So are you saying to me that in say the last 30-40 games of Arteta playing, he was in the centre of midfield?

(on a separate note, can we have a British spell check instead of this American one)

He only moved to the middle for the Spurs game, then played 10-15 games there, then he got injured.

What spell checker? And which word did you need to check?

People have short memories in football.

When a player is playing well, they forget how bad they were the previous match, and vice versa.

Arteta is not the player everyone gives him credit for.

Yes, he is fabulous on his day, but he has many bad days too, and can go missing regularly, even in the middle.

He was injured in the middle of a good spell, which was a shame.
..............................

Pienaar only started to develop once Arteta was out of the way, and played great the 2nd half of last season.

At the start of this season, he was below par, but started to build up steam again.

...............................

We can't presume they will play well together when Arteta returns.
We can only hope.

................................

What games where these? I've got an open mind, tell me the games and we'll go over them. Whilst he didn't dominate every game he played in the middle I don't ever recall him going missing and playing poorly. The difference in terms of our football was there for everyone to see, we have never played like that under Moyes, never.

Even in the big games, Neville and Arteta where going toe to toe with players like Alonso and Gerrard and matching them. Once again, our performances against the big four improved dramatically.

I'd advise anyone to download the 1-1 draw at Anfield and look at the quality of Arteta's defensive performance. The amount of times he won the ball back and the aggression he showed, once again dispelling the myth that he's some type of creative, luxury player.

He used to go missing outwide, and it was frustrating. He certainly wasn't the quality wide player people made him out to be, I'd agree with that. He's a quality, consistent centre midfielder though, of that I have no doubts. Whether he ever returns to that level, we'll have to wait and see.

It was a joke mate, you know what I'm like, don't take everything so seriously.

No, but he did for alot of last season, his performances had a massive effect on the side. And he sees that as his natural position, as does Moyes. He started out as a centre midfielder, he is a centre mid.

I'm just offering another opinion, trying to explain to you the clear differences between playing outwide like Pienaar, and playing in the middle, like Arteta.

Read my post and tell me where I'm going wrong, we'll have a proper debate.

Ah shut up. :P

I know Arteta is better in the middle, but Moyes doesn't do what we think he should do on a regular basis does he.

I think I also read somewhere that Pienaar likes to play in the middle too, as does Billy and Osman.

So we have nobody who wants to play on the wing.

Well done Moyes.

Realising you are patronizing people in many posts is a good place to start. :)
That's not being nasty either, so take it as a friendly observation. (y)
